Uncle Sam Moustache

The true story is I made these last fall for some of my political friends before one of the debates.  We love debates...and elections....and America....oh yeah, and chocolate.
I got three different colors of white chocolate (if you only have white, you can use food dye, but....this was easier for me).  I melted them in a ziplock in the microwave.  I melt them in 30 second intervals, squish them around.  Repeat until they are liquidy.  I cut the corner and then put a line of each colors down a moustache chocolate mold.

Laura Bush Cookies

I made these cookies for Election Day for my secret sister at work.  I asked around in regards to her political allignment (I know, I know-rude, right?) and then I found a recipe that went with the party.  I always thought it would be fun to have a party around Elections or July 4th that went with the presidents and/or their wives favorite recipes.....I guess I know what I'd be serving for dessert.  These really are good, regarldess of your political affiliation, Ms. Bush knows her way around a cookie!  Maybe this will be the year I put my idea to the test, I'll actually be home....yay!
Laura Bush's Cowboy Cookies
Instructions:
Cream together:  3 sticks of butter (room temp), 1 1/2 c. sugar, 1 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
Add:  3 eggs
Add:  1 T of vanilla
Mix together and add:  3 c. flour, 1 T baking powder, 1 T. baking soda, 1 T cinnamon, 1 t. salt
Mix together and add:  3 c. old-fashioned rolled oats, 3 c. semisweet chocolate chips, 2 c. sweetened flake coconut, 2 c. chopped pecans
Heat over to 350.  Drop 2 inch balls onto ungreased cookie sheets.  Bake 17-20 minutes.  Makes about 3 dozen.

Political Cookies

In a little over 24 hours, the news stations, and polls are going to be a hopping place (I hope)!  I've already voted.  I vote early in fear something will happen that doesn't allow me to vote on 'actual' election day.  I'm under the elusion that my vote will make or break any election, please do not disabuse me of this concept because it's very real to me.   I made these cookies for a friend (more on this tomorrow) who is a fan of politics.  She has a side she tends to lean, so one of these may be more fun to eat than the other.  It's always fun to eat screaming cookies.
I found these politcal cookie cutters at a store down the street, but they also sell the elephant and donkey on Amazon.
I added light karo syrup (about 1 T for every 2 c.), so the icing would harden.
I let them air dry before packaging them up.
Next time, I think I'll do more sprinkling....and maybe add a few political party friends to this dessert tray.
I will also NOT be adding the white outline after, maybe first, but it just flaked off when attached to the top.
Lastly, no project is complete unless I take time to thank the team.
Quality Control ain't no joke.
