The Great Gatsby

This afternoon Dawn called and asked me if I would like to go to the movies.  I was just about to leave to go to my Boutique to potter around but decided that this would be much more fun and I could go to the Boutique tomorrow whereas you don't always have the opportunity to spend time with a good buddy.  I had read the book many, many years ago but to be honest I really had forgotten what it was about.  I thoroughly enjoyed it, found it a little disturbing, but I would recommend going to see it if you haven't already.

"The Great Gatsby" follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles."

My dear friend Laurie's hubby is still waiting to be flown out for his heart surgery.  Unfortunately there was a helicopter disaster north of here and two paramedics and two pilots were killed, so that put back the air-ambulatory service locally and only the critical were air-lifted out.  Hopefully, he will have gone this evening or will go tomorrow.  He is still at the hospital which is the best place for him and dear Laurie has been back and forth visiting and it must be very stressful for her too.  She is such a fine lady, strong and true, but I know that she will be much relieved when this is taken care of.  Prayers still appreciated for them both.

I finally got my Boutique all moved out into two new rooms and I must say I am absolutely delighted with it.  I'm really proud of myself too, having done it all by myself, stubborn welsh woman that I am, but everything has a place and a place for everything.  No-one else can help you with that.  Before I show you a few pics of the final look, I would like to mention a young couple I recently met at their garage sale.  S. & I. had a few items that I would have liked to purchase but I didn't have the room for them at the time.  I asked them if they would let me know if they still had them in a few weeks.  A little while later I heard that they still had one of the items and were willing to deliver it to the Boutique and only wanted half the amount that they were asking at the garage sale.  The evening before my first full day in my new rooms they delivered it, a delightful desk (I thought I was buying a dresser 'cos all I remembered were the drawers).   It's cute.  Someone will love it, or it can stay where it is in the Boutique - looks good displaying some of my re-painted items.  (I was so touched by their kindness - this from strangers.)

Anyway, here are a few more photos of my Boutique.  Wish you could all come and visit (and shop, of course).  I have a lot of my own hand-made items, mixed in with new and thrifted items.  I spend most of my week dragging my shopping cart all over the place on my own, from one thrift store to another.  Sometimes even I am amazed at what I bring home.  Take a look............

It's been like winter outside today - the weather really is very strange, cold and blustery and it's going to be the same tomorrow I believe.  Back to jackets and jeans.

That's it for now.  I'm working on a few items at the moment, painting away like I'm in my right mind, LOL  God bless and take care of yourself and each other.  'Til next time.

Hugs,

Day after Canada Day

Hi there, this post was supposed to be sent out on Monday, the day after our Canada day, but unfortunately I deleted it by mistake.  I was so ticked off at myself.  I had walked around my neighbourhood taking photographs.  It was very quiet, nothing was open, not even the concession booth to get a pop or ice-cream.  Lots of people here own cottages or camps and the weather being so glorious, I guess that's where they were.  Well, here goes, I managed to retrieve the photos..............

And the Library, my blog having commenced after I retired after almost 25 (mostly happy) years.

A few pieces of artwork outside the Art Gallery, which is right next door to the Library.  I also have my jewelry featured there for sale also.

 Our beautiful modern City Hall.

Whilst I'm typing this, the fireworks across the river in Sault, Michigan are filling the sky with beauty.

Canada geese and one little ducky swimming on a little inlet from the St. Mary's River next to City Hall.

 Gardens around City Hall.

People having fun on the St. Mary's River.

 A few more goosies, LOL

I hope you enjoyed the scenic trip around my town.  I was going to post more of my cushions I made but I think I have tested your eyes enough, LOL  Something for another post.  Have a wonderful rest of the week.   Finishing with a photo of my darling grandson Rhys......

Crafts Galore

It has been a gorgeous day here today.  Too nice to stay at home so I have been out and about all day.   First I went to the library to return some way overdue DVD's, then to City Meat Market to pick up some ice-cream.  When I came home I called a friend and repaired her necklace for her, changed my shower head and installed a new Water Pix hand held shower head (because the old one leaked all over the floor and toilet when I turned on the faucets to take a bath), then took a walk to the mall and picked up a prescription for another friend. I think I just might stay in for the rest of the evening - I have lots of projects I could be doing but first of all I thought I had better create a new post.  The days are flying by and I can't believe that I have been home for three weeks since my visit to the grandkids.

On the 6th May I had a table at "Passport to Unity" and sold some of my creations.  It was a long day and as I was on my own, I regrettably couldn't take advantage of the fabulous artists and entertainment which went from 11-5.  Here are a few pictures of my table.

With the lovely Dawn, her hubby took this one.

I have been pottering around with a few things to add to my craft sales, e.g. these "vases".  They have a New York theme to them.

I should mention before I go any further, the beautiful flowers I received for Mother's Day from my darling kids.  This first arrangement was from my twin sons, my DIL and my grandkids from out of town....................

And this was from my son and girlfriend from in town..............

I am very blessed with great kids, and they do look out for me.  Thanks kiddos for the lovely gifts.

Here's another creation of mine, it's a little different, but I love it.

It kind of goes with the other picture I made, which I mentioned in my previous blog.

This last weekend I spent helping Pat with her sale at the Queen's Cupboard.  She plans on having one every Saturday so any local people reading this, come on down and see what's going on.  She very kindly is allowing me to sell my creations there also.  Excellent prices all round!!!!  This was my set-up last weekend..............

You don't think I helped Pat out with the sale and didn't buy anything for myself did you?  Before I show you what I did buy, I will tell you that I had to dispose of quite a few items around my place so that my apartment wouldn't look like a second-hand furniture store.  Next blog, I will post photos of how the apartment looks with all the new things and with the old items disposed of!!  Nearly forgot, this is what I bought and I adore it, it goes so beautifully with my cream/shabby chic look............

And, with an extra cushion I just happened to have lying around.

Well, I shall love you and leave you - until the next blog, stay happy and healthy.  Is there anything sweeter than this............
