Claddaugh Quay

The Claddaugh Quay
The Claddaugh Quay is an area close to the center of Galway City, where the River Corrib meets Galway Bay. It was formally a fishing village, just outside the city walls. It is just across the river from the Spanish Arch, which was the location of regular fish markets where the locals supplied the city with seafood as recently as the end of the 19th century. People have been gathering seafood and fishing in the area for millennia. It is among the oldest former fishing villages in Ireland - its existence having been recorded since the arrival of Christianity in the 5th century.

The Claddaugh Quay is a very popular place for walking.

“Support Galway Tidy Towns”
Towns and villages in Ireland receive
awards for cleanliness and beauty in their towns.
It works! There is beauty everywhere!
From here we strolled across the bridge and back into the city center looking for an early dinner.

Centurial Sphere

The Centurial Sphere

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Uprising.

1916 - the Easter Uprising took place in Dublin in April of that year and was the beginning of the end of 750 years of British rule for most of Ireland.

The Sphere carries lines from poems and songs about and from different parts of County Clare celebrating the county's cultural tradition, a tradition cherished by the men and women of 1916.
My personal favorite is the line that reads, "It's a long long way from Clare to here."

The Centurial Sphere sits on the banks of the River Fergus and across the street from the Ennis Friary.

Murano, Veneto, Italia

My husband and I recently visited the sweet little Venetian island, Murano.
People in this part of the world love their window views!

Like it's neighbor, Venezia, Murano has a Grand Canal, of sort.
There are cute homes, boats, laundry

...canals and bridges.

 very pretty bridges, all different.

Murano is known for its glass making.
It seems they can make just about anything out of beautiful glass.

absolutely pure art!

They don't seem to adorn their door with striped curtains like their closest neighbor, Burano.

We didn't spend a whole lot of time on this island because we had Burano on our mind and couldn't wait to get there.
But, this charming little Venetian place is well worth a visit!
Here, we were on our way to the vaporetto stop (ferry) just behind this gorgeous lighthouse.
Burano was just a twenty minute ride away.

Weekend Reflections / Chrome Chicks in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA

I recently fell in love with these chrome chicks at an outdoor sculpture gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA.

Their entire bodies picked up reflections from all angles.

There were 6 or 8 of them scattered around the outside of the gallery...just like a barn-yard!
I really wanted to take one home with me.
