Chrissy's Deco - Faux Batik Technique

This is the last deco for me to work in for the ArtVenturers Group. I have had lots of fun creating pages to go in the other members' books. And love the book I received in return. The only requirement for this group's decos is to have the word "art" somewhere on the page. Chrissy asked that we create with the pages facing each other. I decided to have the two pages flow well together. I love the look and versatility of the Faux Batik technique. I stamped a tree image on the left page and flourishes on the right page with Watermark ink, covered with clear embossing powder and heat set.
I then used my home made blending tool (Cut-N-Dry foam on an acrylic block) to add antique linen Distress ink to the page.
I then added shabby shutters and peeled paint Distress ink with this blending tool. Blending in the colors until I liked what I was seeing.
I wanted another layer/dimension to this piece so I over stamped the tree on the left page and stamped some flourishes on this page with Watermark ink, covered in clear embossing powder and heat set. For the right page, I did the same with the flourish stamp. After embossing and heat setting, I used my blending tool to add pine needles & peeled paint Distress inks.
There are several different ways to iron off the embossing powder. I like to lay a paper towel on a craft sheet. Place the paper embossed side down on the paper towel and iron the back of the paper until the embossing powder has melted and been absorbed in the paper towel.
I then made a small puddle of copper metallic mixative on to a craft sheet, dipped in an old toothbrush and splattered copper over the two pages.
To finish the left page, I colored the edges with a copper leafing pen. I cut out the letters to spell "art" with copper colored paper with a Cuttlebug die and adhered to the top of the tree image and adhered a copper colored dragonfly charm to the page.
To finish the right hand page, I colored both the edge of the page and a quote I received from Sweetpea with the copper leafing pen. I adhered the quote to the center of the page and added some copper colored leaf charms.

Shelly's deco

I received a deco in the mail for one of the NGS group members. I decided to do resist backgrounds for her deco. I started by spraying the page with brass Color Mist spray and heat set.
I stamped a bird in a branch image with embossing ink and covered with clear embossing powder and heat set. Then sprayed over the page with green/blue Shimmering Mist.
I stamped some of the same branches with two colors of green Brilliance inks along the edges. Inked the edge of the paper with the darker green Brilliance ink.
I stamped some words in black Versafine ink, cut out metallic paper to spell f-l-y and adhered it to a black strip of paper:
When I sprayed the Shimmering Mist over the front of the page, I deliberately sprayed over a sheet in the spray box that I wanted to add more color to. I noticed the Shimmering Mist added enough wetness to the page to re activate the other colors on the page. I took advantage of this to dip the back of the deco in these colors. I sprayed the page with some water to pick up enough colors to cover the back of the deco.
Love how this turned out:
More resist, I stamped flourishes with embossing ink and covered with clear embossing powder and heat set. Then colored over the top with two shades of blue Distress inks.
I over stamped the same flourish with blue Ancient Page ink.
I cut out an image of a woman and stamped a saying onto her skirt with black Versafine ink. I cut out an image of butterfly wings and colored them with purple Twinkling H20s, and added them to the back page.
Like how this turned out.

Sheryl's Deco

I was so excited to find a deco to play with in my mailbox today, I couldn't wait to get started. This is for Sheryl in the Art-Venturer's group. I started by rubbing two colors of Distress ink onto a craft sheet and sprayed with water.
I dipped the deco page into this ink, heat set and added a couple more layers of color.
I ran the paper through a Cuttlebug embossing folder and rubbed a white Brilliance ink pad over the top.
I wanted to give an image an aged metallic paint effect. I painted on some water with gum arabic over the back of an image printed onto a transparency sheet and added platinum Moon Glow mica powder.
I rubbed this wet mica over a thin sheet of white paper, to be used on the deco page. Added more platinum mica powder to the back of the image and then adhered to white paper.
Here's a close up of the image, here you can see the spattered mica through the transparency sheet.
I attached the image, an art saying stamped onto the platinum colored paper I just made, and stickers to spell ART.
For the back, I started with a piece of paper that captured metallic sprays on the bottom of my spray box.
I wrinkled up the paper, smoothed it a bit and ran a blue Distress ink over the raised areas.
This was trimmed down and adhered to the back of the deco page. I stamped flourishes with Bronze metallic ink.
I stamped some small leaves and an art saying with black Versafine ink and added one of the row houses I made last June.

ART themed Deco

The Art-Venture group had a round robin deco, project with the theme of ART. I sent 3" x 4-1/2" watercolor paper around to participating members. I have now received all my pagers back, have made covers and bound the book. Enjoy the slide show!

Fiona's Deco

I received Fiona's deco to work in. I stamped 4 images with Distress ink on to the white card stock. I used black markers to define the edges and add details. It is like a reverse of the bandanna technique.
It needed something. I ran an embossing pad over the surface and covered it with iridescent embossing powder and heat set. It's hard to get a good photo. It looks like tile.
I added an art quote on velum that I received from Annie when I was the "IT" girl. I blackened the edges with a Sharpie and attached it with black brads.
For the back, I used a piece of paper from the bottom of my spray box, the same one I used to make Chrissy's ATC Holder. I ran it through the dotted embossing folder and colored with purple Distress ink. Then through the diamond embossing folder and colored with silver Brilliance ink. Then through the swirl embossing folder and colored it with blue Distress ink.
I adhered the sheet to the back of the first page and decided the background needed something. I lightly ran a black Archival ink pad over the surface to give it a grungy look and make some of the detail stand out.
To finish the back, I added an image, another quote from Annie and a clear A sticker with silver edges that I placed over a dark sheet that had also been in the bottom of my spray box.

Carol C's deco

Carol is a member of Art-Venturers participating in the 'Art' deco round robin. I decided to revisit a couple of fabulous techniques for Carol's deco. For the front I choose the March Technique Challenge from Tim Holtz's blog. I had done this in March. Instead of using acrylic paint, I stamped images with gesso and let it dry.
I made three different sprays with Adirondak inks & perfect pearls in mini misters and sprayed over the card stock and heat set.
Used a baby wipe, to wipe the spray off the gessoed images. Then I stamped a bird and some words with black Archival ink, added a saying and ran a gold Krylon pen over the edges to finish the front of the page:
For the back, I used the Textured Cuttlebug Card technique similar to the one shown by Annette Husband. I played with this technique in June. I ran 4 papers through the Cuttlebug with 4 different embossing folders. Tore them and used 4 different sections and glued them onto card stock. I slipped an image in the center and gessoed over the entire surface, then wiped most of the gesso off the center image with a baby wipe.
I placed a torn piece of paper over the image and sprayed the surface with a color mist of red ink & copper perfect pearls. I added more color with Brilliance ink pads and gold spray, the lightning black Brilliance ink was rubbed on with my finger and then wiped off, to make the embossing show more.I covered the image with clear embossing powder and the rest with holographic embossing powder and heat set.

Added a flower and a saying and colored the edges with a gold Krylon pen. Punched holes to finish the back:

Autumn's Deco

Autumn is in the Art-Venturers Group and participating in the 'Art' themed deco swap. I used the water color paper I colored yesterday. Autumn likes 'grunge' so I made this background grungy. Ran it through a leafy Cuttlebug embossing folder and inked purple, then through the diamond embossing folder and inked it red. Heat set after adding each color.
Here's the finished front. I added one of my row houses as the main focus and used the Cuttlebug and silver card stock to cut out the corner embellishments and the 'r' & 't'. The 'A' is a silver edged clear sticker by Magenta and layered over a piece of Distress Scraps Backgrounds I did last spring.
For the back, I ran a scrap of melted metallic crayon background through a Cuttlebug embossing folder and layered on metallic copper paper. The strips and heart were cut out of the textured papers I colored from Adrienne. The quote came from a decorated box filled with quotes I received from Sweetpea. (I'm the "IT" girl this month and my theme is quotes)
