Cake & craft...perfect!

Locally I have some very dear stitching friends...we only occasionally all get together as the demands of work, family & shift working husbands frequently get in the way. But a few of us meet more regularly to stitch, laugh & debrief about whatever is happening in our lives. A cup of tea...a piece of cake...much cheaper than therapy! Here are some snippets of what we are up to!
An african inspired quilt following Lea's recent vacation...based on an original design by Ann Ferguson...
being attacked by my mini lion!
  A beautiful table runner...
more gorgeous French General...this time inspired by blackbird designs.
We had fun...how about you!

The Great Nothingness!

As evidenced by my lack of posts lately, I have been swallowed by the great nothingness! No interest in anything stitchy, a complete blah really! And it wasn't helped by waking this morning with an eye like a puffball!  GREAT! Now I look like an "ork" according to my loving children...probably just allergies...soooo attractive!Oh well, that happens...I try & try to pull myself out, look admiringly at what you are all doing...try to get up a flicker of excitement &....poof... it blows out! Usual reasons (we have them all!!!)...too much paid employment... too little rest time...too much happening really to justify fiddling in the sewing room.
 Great excitement....
from getting a new ironing board cover...pretty huh?
I have gone back to my beginnings...cross stitch...hours spent on night shift many years ago resulted in an ongoing devotion...easy to do of an evening...love the overdyed threads & antiqued linen. Blackbird Designs are always stunning. Might get me motivated again!

I surprised myself!

I have had a long aversion to glue & paint.
Put a brush in my hand & I am hopelessly uncoordinated,
there is glue & paint absolutely EVERYWHERE!
Not a good thing...I avoid it at all costs.
So, when Blackbird designs had a tuorial for covering a fabric box I was surprised when I felt tempted.
I picked up some boxes for $1 each, glue & the dreaded brush.
Fabric from the stashpile...here we go!

Twenty minutes, minimal mess, so easy to do...
I surprised myself!
DD's latest sampler was copied for the paper lining...
I am pretty pleased with it...glue & all.
Try it...it was fun!
