Soar up up and away - and back down again

This is my card for this week's Design Team samples at QKR Stampede.  The theme is Up up and away.  You may enter up to 3 times and you have a chance to win images from the QKR digi store.
As is often the case, I have a story behind this card.  If you have seen previous cards you may recall we have a granddaughter who is beginning her second year at the US Air Force Academy.  She recently completed her requirement to earn her military freefall wings.  Even their first jump is a solo.  So of course the sentiment is not quite accurate - she was certainly not sitting! ( But I could not resist.)    Reading her description - it must be a magical experience.
Recipe:  Parachuting birdie image and sentiment - QKR digis; DP by Sugartree; twine:  Washi tape; Prismas; chalk; star sequins;  Cheery Lynn cloud die cuts;  Spellbinder label dies;  glitter on clouds and goggles

Spinner

Front of card

Inside view

Open view
I recently made some purchases - the items have pretty much been gathering dust until I figure out a way to use them.  Can any one relate?  I bought some ready made card bases for what I think is called a tri fold spinner card.  I also bought (from the Create and Craft TV show) a very large kit of Kanban items.  They are all nice but the items often do not fit a layout or color scheme I planned to use.  So when I saw the challenge at Our Daily Bread I thought this is the time to see what I can do.  I would really appreciate any hints, suggestions or examples you might have.  For me, the most difficult aspect is to deal with the circle that is pre-cut - or, more accurately, half cut.  It seems that one must leave the scallop portion as a white bg
Here, I used a piece of eggplant shimmery cs (dry embossed with Textiles) cut to fit the front - using a circle die for the opening.  Then I stamped the ODB sentiment, and layered it on a slightly larger piece of eggplant.  I added a strip from the Kanban kit, and a Cheery Lynn die cut bird INSIDE:  I used a ready made floral section (Kanban) for the right side - again, with a piece of eggplant cs for the mat.  Another Kanban piece covers the inside of the pre-cut circle, and pieces from a Joanna Sheen die complete the inside design.  I left a bit at the bottom for a hand written message and/or signature.

Glitter and purple birthday

This sketch and other challenges gave me a chance to use  a small piece of glittery DP (for he three strips) that I have had in my scrap pile for a while.  I also added glitter to the Cheery Lynn die cut branches as well as to the purple brad - which kind of blends in at the base of the branches.  I added shiny gems, then bits from a Fiskar punch.  The sentiments are from Verve.  The inside verse says Happy Birthday.

For a new Kathleen

It is not obvious, but this card is a congratulations card for an SCS friend who recently had a double lung transplant and is starting her new life.  The TeaPot Party gang had a celebration for her.  I am very late, but I did bring some music and singers to continue the festivities.  (Maybe she will need earplugs LOL!!!)  This is a fun image from Art Impressions featuring Betty at the keyboard.  I colored with chalk pencils, and added another tiny bird who seems to be escaping.... The sentiment is Recollections.  The mats and bird are Kraft cs.  As I am unpacking all my stuff from the RV I keep finding hidden treasures, including these clips.  Time to use them!

CASEing

I need to replenish my supply of sympathy cards.
Supplies:  Swiss dots embossing folder (Cuttlebug); Cheery Lynn butterfly die; various DP scraps.  This may seem like an unusual choice, but this stamp is a favorite for the front of sympathy cards (Paper Inspirations).  I used Tenia Nelson's card as inspiration for my case - primarily for the layout.

Sympathy - in greens

Inspiration by Vicki Dutcher
A friend needs sympathy cards so I will try to have a selection for her.  The image and all layers are shades of green - despite what the long panel looks like.  This is an image from SU that has been in my stash a long time - from a member of Splitcoaststampers WishRAK group.  Sorry, I have forgotten the name.
Once again, I used Vicki's card for the inspiration challenge at Stamplorations.

For Ernie

I am behind in my cards for the Teapot Tuesday challenge at SplitcoastStampers.  This group has a weekly challenge to send cards to someone with a special need.  A couple of weeks ago cards were sent to Ernie, who recently moved to a nursing home, and is in need of some cheer - and a reminder that there really is much to be thankful for.  I had printed several copies of this verse from Word Art, so it was handy to use again.  I had cut some subtle pattern paper to fit the printer - a good way to use some of that paper that seems to last forever - I often buy"stacks" that I really do not need!  All of these come from a DCWV fall stack.  I added some honeycomb pattern Washi tape, and the negative leftover from a sheet of sticker strips - as well as a small button.

Thank you, Kevin

This card is a thank you for the technology instructor at our local library.  I have taken many classes and also received answers to a number of questions - all at no charge to library patrons.  We are enclosing a small gift card for him.
I do not do well with CAS, but I saw the following CAS challenges and decided to try.  (The black mat is only for  contrast for the photo.)  I left the cream base totally plain - gasp!!!  The image is from my file - unfortunately I neglected to add much of a label, but I think it might be clip art.  The Cuttlebug sentiment, chalking and twine complete the look.  The chalk, twine and the die have been in my supplies for a long time.

A Country Garden for You

This card features a High Hopes image (Country Garden) and some favorites  The image is colored with Twinkling H20;s, including Playful Peony, Pink Anthuriam, and Cedar Wood.  Another fun technique is to ink the embossing folder - in this example, with SU Garden Green.  It is a large image, so I used the Outside the Box technique, cutting part of the image so it extends beyond the main rectangle.

A kitty for Carolyn

This is a card I completed to honor the Queen for the Day, redi2stamp (Mary), on SplitCoastStampers.  I did not case her card, but used it as an inspiration.  I will send this to a friend from church - she has had to leave her friends and church home to be closer to extended family - and she misses us!  She is also fond of cars.  I tried a new to me color combo and I am pleased with is.  The image is a freebie from Dearie Dolls - I used the technique outside the box, cutting the ears and tail so I could use a smaller circle.

5th Aniversary and 70th birthdays

This is indeed a special card for a special couple - both were widowed and now are celebrating their fifth anniversary - as well as 70th birthdays for each - all within a couple of weeks.  We will be celebrating with them tomorrow.  I used my Cuttlebug Olivia die (alpha) set as a stencil for these numbers - Ranger Distress ink.  The verse is from Verve.  I added Washi tape and a butterfly, and a swirly Verve stamp  - all on sublte bg cs. The dies are Nesties Six.

Glitzy Thank you

The thank you section of my stash is pretty empty - time to replenish.  Both the image and DP have been in my box for a long time.   I usually make cards  that do not have quite so many different elements - not sure if this one works.  I cut the outer flower, then cut a smaller version (Spellbinder) - backed the image, and placed the points to leave the bg showing (easier done than explained!)The LifeStyle embossing folder is not new but seems like it as I have only used it a couple of times.  The Washi tape is one of my newer purchases - I am still doing the 100 card challenge (at Splitcoaststampers) - no purchases until I have made 100.  Oh yes - the strip is a silver metallic; the flowers have glitter and I added a bit of glitter to the place mat.

Recycled butterflies

I am sure most of you can relate - some cards come together more easily than others - this was one of the easier ones for me. I usually begin with a sketch.  Here, I added my newest pattern paper (from a grab bag).  I scissor-cut the scallops (part of the pattern), and used the plainer part of the paper for the bottom strip.  The  middle strip shows embossed Stylized flowers (Cuttlebug).  I used some of the washi tape I purchased a few weeks ago as well as metallic cord a friend gave me years ago.  The sentiment is Just Rite.  The butterflies are recycled card board - one of my favorite things for die cuts - that I hardly ever use LOL!  This is from a store brand Raisin Bran box - just the right color!  The striped cereal bowl was just right for the smaller butterfly.  The tricky part is to find a spot without too much lettering.  (My all time favorite would be the boxes containing Marie Callender pies - yummy to eat and nice colorful pictures!)  The sentiment is JustRite.
