Inktober Highlights

{Bear, Sketchbook, 2013}
{Rabbit, Sketchbook, 2013}

 {Briar Rose Awake, Sketchbook, 2013}
{Like Moths, Sketchbook, 2013}
 {Fall Harbinger, Sketchbook 2013}
 {Forest Floor, Sketchbook, 2013}
{Brave Merida, Sketchbook, 2013}
Don't let my blog absence fool you! I've been a busy lady the last few months. I finished my 4th picture book illustrations during the first week of October and have been working on personal projects off and on. I've also been using my daily sketchbook time (ie. drinking coffee, watching Sesame Street and trying to fend of my 10 month old pen stealer.) to participate in the #inktober fun on Instagram. I love seeing what everyone else is doing and it feels good to be a part of a huge community of people who are all over the world doing the same thing. The above sketches are some of my favorites from this month. I am also planing on participating in PiBoIdMo which is essentially one picture book idea a day for the month. You can read more about it at Tara Lazar's Blog. I hope to share some of my work from that during the month of November.

Faces and Places

{Watercolor and Prisma Pencil, 2010}
{Watercolor and Ink, 2010}
These are some recent watercolor sketches. I really love drawing faces so the top was a free-for-all. I started with a bunch of skin toned swatches and then sat in front of the TV while I made up random people. The piece below was a quick demo for a painting and drawing class I taught. Also, I wanted to share that I will have a few pieces of exciting news in a future post so make sure you check back soon!

Illustration Friday - Frozen

{Ink Pen in Moleskine, 2009}
I did a pen sketch in my sketchbook last night. This is probably all I will have time for this week, but I still think the little sketch has quite a bit of personality! I am busy preparing for Market Day (this Saturday, October 24th...stop by if you are in the Des Moines area!) and also some other little mysterious illustration based things that need to be tied up into neat little bows in the next few weeks.

A Million Little Things

{watercolor and ink, 2009}
I wanted to make sure I did something to note Earth Day on my blog, even if it was small. I've been absent from posting this week as I prepare for the SCBWI:Iowa conference in Bettendorf this weekend. I also have several jobs that are getting wrapped up all at once. Its been crazy. I get a little overwhelmed at times, but I would rather have that than complete boredom! I'll have some neat posts coming up next week as things settle down a tad.
