Review: Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation

My time management at work is pretty good (if I do say so myself!) but after work I just never seem to find the time to finish everything I want! I often only end up getting 4-5hours of sleep a night so I look and feel like a zombie the next morning. Rimmel recently released the Wake Me Up foundation to their make up range and I couldn't go past the claim that it would make me look radiant even with only a few hours sleep. Here's my swatches and review for you today!

What they say:

"Rimmel’s Wake Me Up liquid foundation instantly re-awakens skin with a healthy, radiant looking glow, whilst also helping to minimise signs of premature ageing. No matter how late you got home last night, this anti-fatigue foundation immediately helps to eliminate visible signs of tiredness so skin looks rejuvenated. No one need know you were partying ‘till 3am!

The foundation’s light, smooth texture glides on easily to give a 100% pore-less coverage with an even, flawless, natural-looking finish. It it contains radiance pearls to help illuminate skin with a gorgeous, healthy-looking glow. The high-tech formulation features peptides, which helps increasing skin elasticity, so it can recover and bounce back more quickly. As a result, skin looks more radiant and fresh. Finally because the future beauty of your skin is all-important, Wake Me Up Foundation is the first Rimmel foundation containing an SPF 15 to help protect it from the sun’s damaging rays."

The foundation is packaged in a glass bottle with a handy pump which is great. The formula is light and smooth and aims to give a 100% pore-less coverage for a flawless and natural looking finish. The formulation of the foundation contains peptides to help increase skin elasticity so it can recover quickly. There are 5 shades available and True Ivory suited me best.

Swatch - the shade doesn't look like it matches my colour but my face is more tan:

FOTD using just Wake Me Up foundation, some mascara, blush and pink lippie on 4 hours sleep (!!!):

The left side of my face looks so weird in this pic!

Overall: I am really enjoying the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation! I don't really know how "awake" it makes me look as I still look sleepy haha but it definitely gives me a really lovely glow and gives my skin a wonderful dewy finish. It is very natural looking and I'd say gives a medium to full coverage. I don't need concealer with it if I'm having a good skin day either!

It blends beautifully and True Ivory is a very good match for my skintone. I like that it contains SPF (the first Rimmel foundation to!) and the wear is excellent for me - it consistently lasted 10+ hours for me so basically a full work day plus dinner. I am loving the price point for the foundation too, $20 is EXCELLENT!

The major downside is the CRAZY amount of shimmer through it. In sunlight I feel like a vampire from Twilight! All sparkly like the gorgeous Edward Cullen haha. If there was less shimmer it would be an overall winner but it's just way too shimmery. There's a slight scent to it which isn't too overpowering but some people may find it annoying. The shade range is very limited so for very fair and darker skin ladies you'll have a hard time finding a shade unfortunately. That's what I dislike the most about drugstore foundations.

Details: The Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation is available now from David Jones, Kmart, Target, Coles, Big W, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, Priceline, Priceline pharmacy and selected pharmacies nationally for $19.95.

Have you tried it out yet? How to combat the shimmery-ness? Thanks for looking as always!

The product featured in this post was provided to me for consideration but this in no way influenced my review in any way. As always, my reviews are my 100% honest opinion. My Disclosure Policy can be viewed here.

Sydney beauty blogger swap meet

On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the Sydney beauty blogger yumcha swap meet along with 17 other beautiful bloggers which was organised by the absolutely AWESOME Kimmi from The Plastic Diaries. This girl is amazing and was still at her organisational best even though she was so sick. It was so wonderful finally putting a face to the blog/twitter to the ladies I hadn't met before!

We had delicious yumcha lunch at Marigold Restaurant followed by the much anticipated beauty swap! This involved bringing in our unwanted beauty items to swap and just LOOK at all the stuff! The other tables must have thought we were crazy lol.

Rimmel Black Cherries and a story

I think this is the longest I haven't blogged for! But I have good reason which I will get into later. Nail stuff first! I have for you a super quick NOTD using Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish in Black Cherries. I did it about 15mins before I had to head out the door to attend a wedding last weekend and there was a huge risk I would ruin it before I even got there! But it is a beautiful polish so there was no worry at all =)

Black Cherries is a stunning deep red/purple, almost black polish. It has bronzey shimmer through it and is a perfect vampy colour for night time. I wore a black dress with lace and it went wonderfully together. I love Rimmel polishes and this one definitely didn't disappoint. It applied smoothly in 2 coats with very minimal cleanup and dried to a very glossy finish. What's not to love!

I normally try to keep things on my blog light hearted and nail and beauty related however the last week has quite possibly been the crappiest in a very very long time which meant I didn't get a chance to blog or count up entries for my giveaway. I had my final assessment for uni which was a take home exam and it stressed the crap out of me. On top of that, work has been absolutely shocking and the worst week in the 2 years I've worked there I thought I would give you a little insight.

As you may know, I am a nurse and am also studying full time. I love being a nurse and I'm very passionate about my job, but some days I really question why I do it. The pay is crappy for the responsibility, the work is not the best and there is little recognition of the work we do. I work in a drug and alcohol outpatient unit with some extremely challenging patients (clients). It was not by choice that I chose to work in this setting however health issues beyond my control dictated this for me and I'm happy most of the time.

Most of the patients I work with are absolutely lovely people who have made mistakes in their past and are working hard to make a change in their lives. Many of them have shocking family backgrounds filled with abuse and you can see why they chose to take drugs to escape. A lot of my patients are polite and appreciative of the work we do for them however of course many of them have extremely low frustration levels and can be very rude and demanding. It's also extremely full on dealing with intoxicated people and having abuse hurled at you on a regular basis. The last few weeks patients have been so angry and unsettled that it really affects you.

Today I was ready to walk out of work and never come back. We had virtually no nursing staff on and from the moment I walked in to work I was flat out dealing with scripts, phone calls, doctors who needed my help, patients etc. I was completely and utterly drowning and nearly in tears trying to sort everything out as quickly as I could by myself. I called my manager for help as a new patient who was psychotic was hurtling abuse at me telling me over and over again to "hurry the f*** up" and that I was "completely useless" and calling me all sorts of other lovely things in front of a room full of patients.

Now I am a very capable nurse and can normally handle these situations with no problems because I'm so used to them. I get out there with my game face on and don't take any nonsense, but I just wasn't in the mindset to deal with it today after being stressed out and sleep deprived. Do you know what my manager did to help me? Nothing. Nada. Zip. She chose to walk away from me knowing I had all this crap to complete while the psychotic patient yelled abuse at me. Of course he was completely stark raving mad but words do hurt. So does not having support when you're drowning. This isn't the 1st time she's been useless in situations but I was at my wits end today.

Do you want to know the lovely part to the story though? That one of the tough guy patient's in the room stepped in and told the abusive patient that he didn't like the way he was speaking to me and to "calm the hell down because 'chelle is a lovely nurse" and that if he didn't stop he would "deal with him outside". LOL! I was touched and chose not to hear the end bit haha.

So I do apologise for not replying to emails and comments yet. I will hopefully get round to replying in the next few days and have the winner of my giveaway for you by the end of the week or early next week. I hope to do some manis once I get my mojo back too.

Hope you're all having a better week and thanks for listening to me rant!

Halloween skittles manicure

This week at work has been one of the worst I've ever had. Constant fights, tantrums, a lack of doctors, crazy workload.. It's full moon so everyone is going bat crazy! I needed to relax so I decided to take some time out and do a Halloween skittles mani. I'm loving doing different designs on each nail, it's a lot of fun plus I get to try some of my many untrieds!

Photobucket
My WAH nail pic =p

I wish I could spare more time so I could do more full manicures with the designs. I got inspiration for these designs from some of the great blogs I follow! I think my left hand turned out really well but my right hand was pretty much a fail because nothing I wanted actually turned out properly. My middle finger was supposed to be candy corn but my polishes would not cooperate! So I gave up and just used trusty Grape Pop and flakies instead.

Photobucket

Left hand:
Thumb: 2 coats of Color Club Wild at Heart with freehanded spider web using Kiss nail art striper in white.

Index: 2 coats of Sinful Colors Mint Apple as base, BYS Black Satin for the hair, CM nail art pen and striper in white and black for eyes and Kiss nail art striper in black for the mouth.

Middle finger: 2 coats of Essence Undead with Pa witch nail sticker.

Ring finger: 2 coats of Sinful Colors Cloud 9 with pumpkin design from Konad plate m13 using Konad special polish in black.

Pinky: Rimmel I love lasting finish in Double Decker Red with spider design from Bundle Monster plate BM13 using Konad Princess polish in Black pearl.

Photobucket

Right hand:
Pinky: 2 coats of Sinful Colors Big Daddy and 1 coat of BYS Cracked polish in black.

Ring finger: 2 coats of of The Face Shop OR202 with bat design from Bundle Monster plate BM13 using Konad Special polish in black.

Middle finger: 2 coats of China Glaze Grape Pop and 2 coats of Nubar 2010.

Index finger: 1 coat of BYS Black Satin with skull design from Konad plate m13 using China Glaze Devotion.

Thumb: 2 coats of Essence Undead, Kiss nail art striper in black for vertical stripes and spider design from Bundle Monster plate BM13 using China Glaze Devotion.

WHEW! I'm knackered now. Which design do you like the best? I'll be MIA for the next few days as my exam for my final subject is being released tomorrow so I'll be attempting to steer clear of browsing blogs and the net until it's due on Wednesday. Here's hoping x) Thanks for looking!

Polished Pink for October Giveaway!!

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED!

Thank you for entering!

Winner will be announced shortly

Polished Pink for October giveaway! - 1

October marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer research and awareness is something close to my heart as breast cancer has affected my family significantly like it has many others. My mum's younger sister (my AWESOME aunty) is a breast cancer survivor and is an inspiration to me.

One in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85*.

Being breast aware is very important as breast cancer does not acknowledge age, race and even gender. All women – including young women like myself – should examine their breasts regularly to check for any changes. This isn't a public service announcement or anything, it's just one of the causes I'm passionate about and I urge you all to please get behind it. Here are some great charities:

National Breast Cancer Foundation - promotes and supports breast cancer research
McGrath Foundation - raises money to place breast care nurses in communities across Australia.
Breast Cancer Australia - supports ongoing national breast cancer research and to raise awareness of early detection
Cancer Council of Australia

Please donate generously =) Now, on to the giveaway! To help spread the word, I am holding a “Polished Pink for October” giveaway to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most of the items in the giveaway are pink (obviously!) and I do know that many people don’t like pink so I’ve tried to add some red and coral into the mix too.

Bargain Maybelline and Rimmel haul + my new logo

Hello ladies! Just a quick post for you today since I'm meant to be doing readings for class tomorrow. I picked up some Maybelline Mini Coloramas and Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish on sale tonight at Kmart. A BIG thank you to the awesome Shazzii from Polish Infatuated for giving me the heads up on this great $4 off sale for these brands!! =D

I picked up a dozen polishes for the princely sum of only $14.25 however I'm not keeping them all myself! Only 4 are mine while the rest are for a future giveaway and the others are to give to some lovely blogger ladies. I've never tried Maybelline polishes actually so this is the perfect opportunity to try them at a bargain price. I love the Rimmel polishes so what better excuse to stock up on some!

Maybelline and Rimmel haul

Here are the ones I kept all to meself. From L - R:
Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish in Electric! and Black Cherry and Maybelline Mini Colorama in Icing Sugar and Tutti Frutti. No time to paint my nails unfortunately so I can't show you swatches =( My nails have been bare since SUNDAY!!

Photobucket

You also may have noticed that I got a logo for my blog! I am in love with it as it just sums up my blog so perfectly and in pink too =p I've wanted a logo for ages now but of course I'm not talented enough to make one myself. I saw Ena's lovely logo and wanted one that was in a similar style, so I contacted the graphic designer she recommended - Claude Yiu.

Claude was absolutely fantastic to work with. He looked at my blog and then asked me detailed questions about what I wanted incorporated in it, the colours, the fonts etc. and then created some designs for me to choose from. He was very patient when I wanted changes for this and that and delivered a logo that reflects my blog and "me" perfectly. I can also use the logo as my watermark which I've done above so I don't need to plaster my URL over all my pics! He turned it around for me in barely over a week and I could not be happier with the end result!! I highly recommend his services so if you're after a cute logo definitely give Claude a go. You can contact him via email claudeyiu@yahoo.com.au.

Have a great weekend ladies! I'm going to be stuck in class all day tomorrow so think of me while you have fun! =p

Reader request: Rimmel Double Decker Red swatch

Hi ladies! I don't have time at the moment for a full manicure so I'll be doing some posts I've wanted to do for a while now. A while ago I did a not so fantastic NOTD here using Rimmel Double Decker Red as my stamping colour. One of my readers Joan requested a swatch of the colour so here it is =)

Double Decker Red is a bright red creme that applies super smoothly and easily. It's very pigmented and one coat would be enough, but I did two below to show you the red and it dried to a high gloss finish. I love the brushes too, they're a good size and I don't need to do cleanup most of the time. I've always found Rimmel polishes fantastic quality and the formula really good but the size is pretty small - you only get 8mls in a bottle.

Double Decker Red

This polish holds a special place in my polish collection as it was my first bright colour I bought when I was really getting into nail polish. I've always loved nail polish but I never really got the chance to wear it often and when I did I only ever wore pinks and sheers, so I bought it for something different. I haven't looked back since, I wear ALL sorts of colours now!

It's a great polish to own so I hope you buy it Joan!

Thanks for looking =) Don't forget to enter my 200 followers giveaway here!

Color Club Yummy stars NOTD

Hi ladies! I am so over work and it's only Tuesday.. doh! At least I have nail polish to look forward to at the end of the day =) I decided to do a quick mani using Color Club Yummy from the Sweet Seduction collection.

Yummy is a sweet pale pink creme. I find with most light pink cremes I own I find application a little streaky and difficult eg. China Glaze Innocence and OPI Passion and a few coats is needed. I was hoping this wouldn't be the case with Yummy but the 1st coat had bald spots galore and the 2nd still had VNL so a 3rd coat was needed. Below is 3 coats without topcoat. I really like the colour though so it was worth the pain!

Color Club Yummy

Now I probably should have stopped there with just the pretty polish, however the lovely *misskitty* requested more Konad mani posts so of course I had to Konad! I wanted to try out the full nail stars design from Bundle Monster plate BM21 so I used Rimmel Double Decker red to stamp and then topped it with Nailene Acrylic Strong topcoat.

Photobucket

I'm not really happy with how it turned out though. I'm not really digging the pink and red combo and my placement was so off! It's so darned hard to see where the red polish is on the stamper to align the pattern. I was going to do more with the mani but couldn't be bothered. Oh well! You see the good, the bad AND the ugly on my blog =p

What colour combinations do you think go well or love to see for konadicures?

New polish crush and fauxnad GCOCL haul (including Hello Kitty)!

I feel like I've been away from blogging for sooooooo long! This week has been intense with work and uni (I had 2 intensive days and a presentation due!) so hence the lack of updates until today =(

So 1st off I'll start off with my new crush on Essie polishes. I've been dying to try them but like everything in my life these days (HA!) I just haven't gotten around to it. Essie's colour range looks awesome and I love their bottles, they're so cute! My local nail supply shop stocks a large range but only of the pinky/neutral/red shades as the owner says the brand isn't very popular in Aus as it doesn't have the recognition that China Glaze has here. I picked up 2 colours the other week - Red Hot Mama and Bike Ride. I tried Red Hot Mama today.

Essie "Red Hot Mama"
Essie Red Hot Mama

Red Hot Mama is a gorgeous hot pinky/red colour. It went on like an absolute dream!! Opaque in only 2 coats it went on smoothly and dried quickly to a high gloss finish. Word of warning that this polish looks different in different lighting - sometimes more pink and others more red.

Essie "Red Hot Mama"
Without topcoat - waiting to add nail art!

I ordered a few GCOCL plates a few weeks ago and I finally recieved them last week! I've been dying to try them out =) I ordered quite a few plates as you can see below (I didn't intend for this many but due to a mix up I got HEAPS!) including the much hyped about A02 plate with the Hello Kitty image. I won't be keeping all the plates though as much as I'd like to as it's just waaay too many for me.

GCOCL haul
GCOCL plates!

GCOCL A02
GCOCL A02 plate

The plates look rather scratched as they have a thin protective plastic film over it which must be removed before stamping. I used OPI Alpine Snow to stamp the images which worked really well. I found the plate much easier to use than Konad to start off with and there's no need to use special Konad polishes. I did some test stamping with some old(er) Rimmel polishes and they came out clear and bold.

Photobucket

I'll be posting up close up photos of the remaining plates in my next few posts so stay tuned!

Nails Nails Nails

I've been really into nail art for the past months but just haven't had the time to experiment since I began lurking in the Soompi forums and gotten inspiration from the many nail blogs i read (see my blog list).  I am nowhere near as talented and patient as the other ladies but here are some of the the designs I've been sporting lately.

Red and glitter silver
Red and silver glitter nails (sorry I'm crappy at coming up with names!)

For these nails i used Rimmel 60 second Be a Star for the tips, CM nail art in silver glitter and Seche Vite for top coat with a flowery Pink Fin brand nail sticker.  I find Rimmel nail polishes to be really good and for a reasonable price too, I purchased most of mine at Priceline in their 3 for 2 sale some time ago.  The colour range is good and the polish doesn't tend to chip much.

Black and glitter red
Black tips and red glitter nails

For these I used Rimmel 60 seconds vinyl shine in black out for the tips, CM nail art in red glitter and Seche Vite as top coat.  These weren't the best because after i painted the red glitter I painted an extra line of white but I changed my mind after doing it and painted the tips black again haha.

Fimo fruits

Fimo fruits
Fimo fruit nails

These fimo fruit nails are my version of the lovely Nikki's nails over at Askmewhats from her fruity fimo nails tutorial from last year.  I purchased my fimo sticks from ebay as they were the cheapest and then cut them myself into thin pieces.  They come in soooo many different designs like flowers, animals etc. and I'll post my collection another day as I just recieved my latest fimo haul from ebay today =p  I am totally obsessed with fimo!!

I used a base coat of OPI Passion and CM nail art in Pearl and Gold glitter on the tips.  I then used my thick Clinique All in one base coat to adhere the cut fruits to middle of the nail before using OPI Top coat.

Stay tuned for my Valentines nails next!
