Grafting Socks and all that

Sock making made easy from the 1940s I came across this book printed in the 1940s for School Children's kitting for the Australian Military persons during the Second World War. The details for grafting are easy to perform I found the details in the 1960s sock and glove book confusing. For a reason only known to blogger the photos have come out in script for me to read so sorry about the distribution of photos.
The Patons book has been widely used for gloves and children's socks , that was when children wore woolen socks. The balaclava and vests are from the Patriotic Fund book Enjoy the patter Margaret

Van Gogh at the N.G.V.

This chandelier has moved many times Liz and I .
The National Gallery of Victoria has had major redevelopments over the years. It is now an exciting gallery with Exhibitions Coffee shops Tea Shops and excellent restaurants one feature which has remained since being built is the Great Hall Ceiling
The Grand Hall was opened on August 20, 1968.

Its magnificent ceiling is the world's largest stained-glass ceiling, designed by Australian artist Leonard French. The ceiling is high (13.72 metres), vast (60.9 x 15.24 metres) and so heavy with glass and steel that its downward projecting triangles need to be held up by a series of slim steel columns.

Each of the main intersecting triangles has been turned into thousands of geometric pieces of coloured and clear glass that have been cut so their facets bounce and refract coloured light.

The 224 triangles of diamond-cut primary colours weigh 300 kilograms each.

Many call it a Persian carpet of light!

Now back to why we were there Vincent's paintings of course.

There were about 75 paintings and 20 Lithographs.

The National Gallery of Victoria, in partnership with Art Exhibitions Australia, presents Van Gogh and the Seasons for the 2017 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition. Curated by Sjraar van Heugten, independent art historian and former Head of Collections at the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, Van Gogh and the Seasons is exclusive to Melbourne and presents the largest collection of Van Gogh artworks to ever travel to Australia.
Van Gogh and the Seasons is presented within sections devoted to each of the four seasons. Viewers are invited to explore Van Gogh’s profound connection to nature through nearly 50 paintings and drawings, many of which depict places that were the setting for defining moments in the artist’s tumultuous life. Drawing extensively from Van Gogh’s personal letters and research into his interest in literature and nature, Van Gogh and the Seasons provides insight into the influences and themes that dominate much of this visionary artist’s work.

Van Gogh and the Seasons features works lent by leading international museums, including the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, and the Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo, which respectively holds the largest and second largest collection of Van Gogh’s works in the world.

Well I have been busy sewing scrap.

Actually I have sewn together seven tops and am still going . The scrap is getting larger as I buy just a bit to go round the edge or you know how it is.
See you later Margaret
