The one with the chicken finished!!

And yet another finish....I already made a Spring quilt in turquoise in April, so that is why this is called the one with the chicken!!!
The chicken is a block I draw myself (wanted to make an Easter quilt one day...)

This one really cleared out my closet because a lot of left over blocks were used in this quilt. Also a few unfinished projects are finished because of this project!!

There is embroidery in it, old ( the old round one made by my Mother in law years ago)and new, gifts( the one with the garden gate my friend Marieke gave to me)  and self made pieces.

I made up the long twine of  leaves to use a lot of red scraps. The applique, showing a girl with a flower in her hands is from a book Le petit Monde by Jaqueline Morel 

 In each corner there is a compass. I first saw them  in one of Ingrid's quilts.  My husband draw the pattern for me and I made it into a paper piecing pattern.

The paper pieced blocks were made in a class taught by Gré Koopman. She is sadly enough no longer with us, but I learned a lot from her and admired her as a person, shop owner and teacher.

This Geranium is from a pattern by Lori Holt from Bee in my Bonnet . May be one day I will make the whole quilt. I appliqued this one with a herringbone stitch I showed here. The mini blocks I made during a class somewhere in the 90's....and they survived!

The big character 'A' is made with the broderie persé technique. And the bright coloured block in pink and yellow was bought at an antique stand (and is about 150 years old). The little handkerchief with the character 'A' was a gift when I was about 8 years old.
In this quilt I also included  left over blocks from previous quilts like 'klosjes' from the klosjesquilt, a basket from my basket quilt.

I like paper pieced patterns like this with the flying geese going round, I made that one years ago.

 A lot of big pieced blocks are from a calendar with lots of nice block designs.

A glimpse of the back made from random pieces of pink and beige fabrics. And a binding in dark red.

And I just made a quick picture on my balcony so you can see most of the back of the quilt. Not so exciting but nice and  'quiet' to see if the quilt is turned.

Facts:

Size: 1.70 cm by 1.73 cm,  (67 inches by 68 inches)
Quilting: Hand quilting in big stitches, without a hoop, with yarn from Weeks dye works 
Batting: 100 % cotton.
Embroidered over the finished blocks with perlé yarn numbers 8 and 5, in pink, reds and beige.
Washed in the washing machine (with 6 colourcatchers!) and partly dried in the drier.

Gelukkig nieuwjaar! Happy New Year!

Een gelukkig nieuw jaar vol met quiltuurtjes voor iedereen gewenst! Daarnaast wil ik ook iedereen bedanken die mijn blog volgt en/of leest!

A very happy new year with a lot of quiltinghours for everyone! I also want to thank everyone for following and/or reading my blog!

Dit is vast een 'doorkijkje' van een quilttop met sterren. De blokjes van 2 bij 2 inch,  komen van een 'block-swap'  die gehouden werd bij de de Sampler en waar ik met veel plezier aan mee heb gedaan.  Ik ben ook erg benieuwd naar de quilts van de andere dames die meededen.
Ik ben de quilt nu aan het doorquilten op mijn Featherweight. De Pfaff stopte er eergisteren mee, dus die moet eerst voor onderhoud weg denk ik. Ik hoop dat er niets ergs mee is.


This picture shows a shine-through'  from a new quilttop. I joined a block-swap in 2012  at  my quiltshop in Haarlem: de Sampler . The little blocks are from that block-swap. It was a lot of fun to be part of it. I hope to see the results of the other participants in the coming months.
I'm quilting this quilt now on my Featherweight. My Pfaff broke down so it has to be repaired first. I hope it is nothing serious.

3 keer Sterren...3 times Stars

Van een quilttop van een dollquilt heb ik deze kussenhoes gemaakt. Hij paste precies op dit kussentje.

This top didn't make it into a dollquilt but I'm very happy with this pillow instead.

 Het quilten op de machine ging lekker en was snel klaar.

The quilting was done on the machine and it was a quick job with a satisfying result I think.

En dan nog de achterkant. Dit is geen quiltstof maar een dikkere bekledingsstof. Ik had niet zo'n grote rits in huis dus is de sluiting een overslag geworden.

This is the back. It is made from an upholstery fabric. I'didn't close it with a zipper but the fabric overlaps on the back.

Ik ben erg blij met het resultaat en hij paste prima bij de bank.

I'm happy with the result and the colours match the sofa.

Met deze quiltblokjes wilde ik de 'liberated stars' uitproberen die ik in een boek van Gwen Marston

heb staan. Ik vind haar manier van werken echt geweldig.

I used these 'liberated star blocks' from a book by Gwen Marston to try out her work. I really like her way of designing and sewing.

 Sommige zijn wel erg vrij uitevoerd...De puntjes moeten een volgend keer wel zichtbaar blijven vind ik.

Some stars are a bit too liberated. Next time I will try to keep the points visible.

 Kijk ik heb het biesje eerst aan de achterkant met de machine vastgezet en dan naar de voorkant geslagen. Daarna weer met de machine vastgezet. Erg makkelijk!!! Dit ga ik vaker oefenen want het is wel een handige manier om de bies vast te maken vooral als je hele quilt al met de machine is gemaakt.

Look, I made the binding entirely by machine. First I sewed the binding to the back and than sewed it to the front of the quilt. I'm goning to practice this a lot more. It is a nice and quick way to do the binding.

 De achterkant ziet er dan zo uit. Het stiksel is wel te zien maar loopt netjes langs het randje.

This is how the back looks like. You can see the sticheline running along the binding. I think it looks good.

 Dit is een kerstkleedje waarvan de top ook al lang klaar lag. Ik heb hem eindelijk af.

This christmas-top was waiting for some time to be finished. I handquilted it with simple stitches.

En nog eentje met Goofie, hier een beetje slaperig, maar ja hij is ook al 12 en een van de liefste honden ooit!

And the last picture with Goofie, a bit sleepy, but he is already 12 years old and one of the sweetest dogs ever!

Rode sterren en hexagons

Even een update! Deze sterrentop begon ik tijdens een cursus mini's (7/10) van de quiltwinkel in Haarlem de Sampler. Ik maakte hem af in de week van 14 oktober en iets groter dan op de cursus, hij meet nu 80cm x 80cm en is in het rood met groen zodat hij gelijk in de decembermaand op tafel kon. Dan moet hij nog wel af komen natuurlijk...


Er ziten nog oude stofjes in, zoals het stofje met de eendjes. Dat was een van mijn eerste quiltstofjes die ik kocht.


En in deze zit een broderiestof waar ik ook helemaal weg van ben.


En nog eens over mijn lievelingsstoel. Het is voor het eerst dat ik de rand zo met een doorlopend streepje heb gedaan geloof ik.


Nu ben ik begonnen aan hexagons. Die kan ik zittend op die stoel of de bank maken. Je zou zeggen dat ik niet zo'n naaister met de hand ben. Helaas zit ik nog even in de 'lappenmand' (zat ik maar in een echte!). Op de een of andere manier heb ik de ziekte van Pfeiffer opgelopen. Ik heb net 3 weken koorts gehad en gelukkig is dat over. Wat blijft is dat ik erg snel moe ben en nog wat kleine dingetjes, maar het enige wat helpt is uitrusten. Dat valt nog niet mee als je altijd graag bezig bent, maar gelukkig is het iets wat gewoon weer over hoort te gaan.
Ben al blij dat ik weer een berichtje heb kunnen plaatsen want dat werd wel tijd! Ik heb het lezen van blogs en schrijven van berichtjes ook gemist, dus hoop ik dat weer een beetje op te pakken.
