Quiltshow at Hippolytushoef (Wieringen), small finishes and geocaching

We planned a day geocaching at Wieringen, in the north of Holland and there were quilts hanging in shop windows, by surprise, in a place called Hippolytushoef. These mugs were appliqued on a black background, which isn't visible in the photo, but gives a fun result! This quilt is made by Tineke Tauber.

A quilt in a bike shop. It looked like a combination of cotton and wool. I like the unusual choice of colours. Made by Marion Baijs.

These obviously Dutch quilts were made with special Dutch handkerchiefs, very nice.I'm sorry I didn't write down the makers of these two. I think the bottom one is also made by Tineke Tauber.
This quilt exhibition and 'quilt walk'  through town is to be seen until 31th of may. Further details here

It is such a nice area with old Dutch houses and farms. Very beautiful. Long time ago Wieringen has been an Island but as with many area's in our country, we made land out of water, so Wieringen is no longer an island. People still say they are living on Wieringen, not in Wieringen though!

The  geocaches we found today, were made and hidden with lots of creativity and care. One of them was hidden in an old mailbox in a 'open air' brocante shop (second hand and/or antique ware).

Everything was dispalyed just outside in a few open closets. If you want to buy something you just put the price tag and money in a small box. They just trust the buyers.
Lovely coffee pot....maybe I should have bought it....

Lots of interesting things to see!!

You could smell the see every where. One side of Wieringen still touches the water. Here we had to answer questions about the soil and plants in order to be able to log a cache.

I finished this little bag for my Mums birthday. I tried out making roses with silk ribbon. The family also gave her a dinner party. That's what she liked most: being together with the whole family. I'm so glad she had a wonderful day.

I finally finished this knitting role.

In stead of saving all the pieced blocks, embroideries, applique try outs and more, I pieced them all into one big top. The result is: I can delete projects of my to-do list, so that's good!
It was a bit difficult to make a sandwich because of the 'assistance' I got....

I will show more if I have done some quilting and embroidery on it and have better pictures;)
I already give a warning: it is a bit of a strange collection! (someone here at home even said it was ugly!)

'Teckels (dachshunds) and bikes quilt' finished!

This quilt is all about strips, different width, mostly pink, grey, light blue and some red, bike fabric and dachshund fabric, all from my stash.

It took me a couple of days to machine quilt this big one. I wrote about making the top here . I didn't think it was that long ago I started this quilttop...so glad I finally decided to finish it!

The binding, 9 meters(!) was cut on the diagonal because the stripes give a nice effect like this.

The quilt is washed and dried and I'm going to try to sleep under it tonight!!

The pattern is from this book . I like the weblog of Amanda Jean Nyberg (one of the writers) very much.

Some photo's are taken in the sun , like this one. The one on my bed, of course,ia taken inside the house and looks a bit less bright but the colours are looking real.

And one of our real dachshunds, Lizzy, went with us yesterday, geocaching  in the forest at Soestduinen (located in my country,The Netherlands).

The sand was blown away under the roots of this tree, which made this strange tree stand on 'legs'. Just when I was about to make this picture, Lizzy walked into the 'frame'. Funny isn't it?

Facts about the quilt:
size: 2.35m by 2.15m
fabrics, backing and batting all 100% cotton
sewn and quilted by domestic sewing machine (my Pfaff 4.0 quiltexpression)

Have a great week!

Vendee, clear skies, Atlantic ocean, bright colours.

Just an impression of a few days Vendee, in France. Bright skies, the Atlantic ocean, lots of fishing boats, seagulls, white houses, history and clibing trees!

Happy Birthday Goofie and two finishes!

Onze Goofie, ruwhaar teckel,  is gisteren 14 jaar geworden!

Goofie, our dachshound, turned 14 yesterday! We are very glad he is still with us all though he is having more health problems now he is getting older. We had a nice day. Goofie thought so too: as long as we are together and there is enough food he is always a happy dog.

This is a geocaching quilt (you can read about the game: geocaching here ) I made for my husbands birthday. I made the quilt on the occasion of our 5000th  cache found in july, this year.

In geocaching every one has a cache name and our name is : Cache-amount, so I made our logo, on the top left. All the applique is done by machine. The quilting is done by hand with a nr 8 crochet yarn in yellow.

All you can see on the quilt has to do with geocaching but I won't explain everything about it, it will be to much about geocaching. My husband appreciated the quilt so mission accomplished.

Deze gehaakte deken is klaar.

I finished this crocheted blanket this weekend.

It turned out this size: 75cm by 1,33cm, not so big but I just wanted it being finished.

The blue, sculpted border was a nice surprise. After seeing so many projects around me, it felt good to finish this. Thanks Hannah for the pattern of the 'as-we-go stripey blanket' . The pattern is written very clear and with a lot of photo's in it.
