Livia

This is Livia,

Although she has been with me for a few weeks, maybe a bit more, I hesitated to make pictures of her and 'put her on line'. Also it has been such a long time since I have been here! Today I took the chance;)  Enjoy her pictures!

It started back in April with a pattern called 'Big fig' I bought from Fig & Me

Here her head is covered. The whole process took days!!!

Here she is finished and ready for clothing.

Her hair is made of wild brush-able mohair yarn.

With this doll I learned to make little knees 💖

I made her a dress and underskirt from woven Japanese fabric and embroidered it with small silk ribbon flowers (my own pattern)

Her shoes are crocheted, made to fit (no pattern)

We went out today to explore an abandoned house site. Lots of wild flowers here. Because it is very windy she wears her woolen col. May be she will need a cardigan and hat later.

Her undies made of quilt fabric, has a pocket because her skirt doesn't have one and I believe one always need a pocket😉

The sun came through.

Livia with her little family, a little baby brother and a small toy doll in a all in one suit. ('Baby fig'  and 'Wee baby' pattern)

Well you know how little sisters are.....

And how hard it is to choose from all the pictures!

And one more,
lots of love and thanks for visiting!

doll making

My first 'Waldorf style' doll. She is made from this pattern (appr. 30 cm long) I made her clothes without a pattern (just by trial and error;) I wanted to try this technique for quite a while.

She is having a chat with an older teddy bear friend, also made by me.

In the mean while a friend and I started a workshop at Wolletje wit in Alphen aan de Rijn to make a 'Walldorf style' doll filled with sand. Technically a more challenging job because of all the sand filled limbs inside of her. She is a lot bigger, about 50 cm long.

The doll on the left is made by my friend Marieke and the one on the right by me. I learned a lot of new things and we had a wonderful two days filled with hard work, good lunches and a very friendly and skillful teacher, the owner of Wolletje Wit, Kitty .

Pip still needs a warm sweater, but here she shows her new (reversible)dress.

While waiting for the second day of the workshop ( There were two weeks between the first and second day) I decided to try to make a 'fiber art doll' on my own. To make such a doll, there are a lot more felting techniques involved to sculpture a doll face. For this doll I bought a pattern at this Etsy shop. A good, clear detailed pattern with lots of photo's. It is intriguing to make a face yourself!!! As if you are meeting a new caricature for the first time.

Here she is again with the small first doll. No clothes yet, so she is wrapped in a doll quilt. For her hair I used wool from Iceland. I didn't want to use too expensive doll hair because it was to practice doll making for me.

Here she is with her new outfit and surrounded by lots of new furry friends who are very curious about this new family member!
I called her Miyuki. This also means deep snow and because she is very white and happens to wear clothes made of Japanese fabrics, this name seems appropriate.
(All things furry made by me except for the kiwi, he is made by Ty).

I find it almost impossible to stop making dolls....I still have this needle felted head and a new piece of fabric waiting so may be I will try to make one more.

But first this tomorrow back to quilting: a workshop by Margaret Sampson George  in Amsterdam here. I'm so excited and very curious!!!

Stay in (doll) bed weather.

This dolls bed was hidden under other things in a charity shop. I was able to buy it for almost nothing and the woman in the shop was glad she finally sold it! Well, this bed made my day!!! I'm so happy I found it.

It is quite heavy, solid and has its original paint. It looks old to me and so nice to display doll quilts of course!

There is a bottom made out of board with small holes in it. So I made a mattress and found an old doll pillow and self made doll quilt in my closet.

The little quilt on this bed is this one. The pattern is called: 'hidden nine patch or disappearing nine patch'
It is a fun and easy pattern to work with.

I made this doll  from a Tilda book in january 2010. Her body fabric is stretchy so she is a little bit bigger than she is supposed to be but that is all right with me.

And even if you are awake you would want to stay in this bed with a good book ;)

ps. the bed meassures:
length: 57cm by width: 33cm

Have a nice day!

During a short holiday in France I promised myself to sew on this little dollquilt. We did a lot of walking so the sewing was for the evening. It was finished very quick and all by hand. It was a lot of fun making this quilt and it is certainly one of my favourites!
The dollquilt measures: 40 x 32 cm en the pattern and fabrics are coming from Quilt it and Dotty

This pattern came from Happy stitches . The pattern is made by Jodie Carleton. The dolls and animals are very funny.

Her hair is made from woolen felt. It is a cute and simple way of making hair.

Haar jurk is omkeerbaar. Kijk maar...

The dachshound is mine and I made it a while ago from my own pattern. She was a little bit lonely and needed a friend.
Her dress is reversible, have a look...

This side is blue. There is no fraying because of the two sided dress.

And here together under the little quilt...have a nice easter weekend!

next appliqueblock and new fabrics

I started with the first block out of three (extra ones) for my applique-quilt.It is a house with a veranda where I would like to live myself one day!

Here there is a tree next to the house. The leaves will follow this weekend. We are having a lot of snow so there is nothing else I can do but sewing and quilting;)

This is another detail of the finished blocks so you can see the quilting very clear. I have so much fun doing this.

The second doll quilt is finished and fabrics for the third are already waiting. I am thinking what pattern to use for it.

My son (23) and daughter (20) bought me these happy and colourfull fabrics for my birthday. My son bought them ( never did this before) and was wondering why they sold so little pieces (fat quaters). He didn't want those little ones for me so he asked for bigger ones( 0.25m x1.5m and the checkers 0.5 x 1.50). He said now you can at least make something usefull out of it. He reminded me at the fact that buying small pieces of fabric is not the wisest decision I could make...Well never too old to learn I must say and I am very happy with these fabrics.

Goed weekend,
