Summer 2017 catch up

I started to work on my 70's tulip quilt, which I mentioned here  .All the applique is down but I want to embroider over it, so work on this one will continue.

On holiday in June, I started this kaleidoscope quilt. Not as easy as it seems. I really had to pay attention to what colours (and shades) to pick. 

Somewhere in between projects I made this top with the big churn dash blocks. I loved working with big blocks for a change. I used thrift shop shirts, new quilt fabric, old French fabric, a handkerchief and some 80's fabric.

I started to embroider from this book by Cecile Franconi. All of the projects are not big, easy to finish in a couple of days. And the more I practice the more I learn. Fun to learn new things!

This is a card I embroidered for a good friend. There is no pattern in the book, but I just thought to give it a go and learn on the way.

Another good friend send me lots of silk pieces for a new exciting project, all the way from the USA. 

After washing and ironing it looked like this.

With the help of my husband, I draw blocks, mostly on the computer, after a quilt from 1765,  in possession of Huis Doorn (the Netherlands) but once made in the UK.  Sadly the quilt is in a depot. I hope to see it once.
There is a picture of it in this book by An Moonen on page number 124 and 125.

I enjoyed making a replica of the 1718 quilt ( York, UK). Since the 1765 quilt from Huis Doorn reminded me of the 1718 quilt I started thinking of making another replica. I hope to show you more blocks soon. I'm still collecting silks, which is not that easy, but fun. It will be my first silk quilt.

490 stukjes in het derde poppenquiltje en applicatieblokken

Voor dit poppenquiltje nam ik een ander patroontje. Het patroontje dat met de stofjes in de post kwam, leek veel op het klosjes-patroontje en ik wilde graag iets anders maken. Dit is het churn-dash patroon. Het spoeltje laat zien hoe klein de stukjes zijn.

To make this little one I used the churn-dash pattern in stead of the pattern that was sent with the fabrics. The bobbin is there to compare so you can see how big (or small) the pieces are.

Om geen stof te verliezen maakte ik ook een rand van de overgebleven blokjes. Dat was nog een hele klus en de stukjes waren behoorlijk klein. Het zijn er dan ook ook 490 stukjes stof geworden in totaal!

I didn't want to waste any fabric so I made a border from the left over triangles. The top has a total of 490 pieces of fabric!



Dit is de hele top. De maten zijn 33 x 33 cm. Het quilten zal niet zo makkelijk zijn want de achterkant zit vol naadtoeslagen!

This is the finished top, it measures: 33 x 33 cm. To quilt the top wil not be easy because of the little pieces and all the seam allowences.



En nog een keertje met mijn sneeuwpop van pluche.

Mijn derde pplicatie huis is bijna klaar. Er komt waarschijnlijk nog een vogeltje voor het huis.

My third applique house-block is almost finished. Maybe I will make a bird or other animal in front of the house.




Dit applicatie blok is de derde met een vaas bloemen en een gekleurde achtergrond. Ik dacht dat ik geen losse blokken meer had liggen maar vond deze zeshoekige blokjes nog. Ik maakte ze eens op een vakantie maar ga er geen hele quilt van maken. De kleuren zijn een beetje anders dan de rest maar het voelt goed om weer iets te gebruiken wat nog in de kast lag.

These flowers are made from some hexagons I found in my closet. I made them on holiday some time ago. I wasn't planning to make a whole quilt out of it so I'm happy I could use them in this applique quilt, although the colours are a bit different from the rest. Well I don't mind I think. It is also a block with a coloured background.

Mijn dochter heeft deze matroesjka voor me gemaakt. Er zijn er 5 in totaal maar het zal wel even duren voordat ze klaar zijn, want het is erg veel werk. Als ze klaar zijn, zijn ze behoorlijk stevig ( handig om stevig papier of fotopapier te gebruiken) en erg mooi. Ze vond ze op deze site van Canon . Sommige papieren figuren hebben wel er veel velletjes met onderdelen dus is het handig om dat eerst te checken voordat je op 'print' drukt!

My daughter made me this matryoshka out of paper! It is the first one out of 5. It will probably take a whileto finish them all, because it is a lot of work. She found them on this website from Canon .
There are a lot of beautifull things to make on this site. The finished figures are very firm ( best to use thick or photo paper). Some of the things you can make need a lot of printed pages so it will be wise to check before you start printing!

Poppenquilt/ Dollquilt

Van restjes heb ik deze poppenquilt gemaakt. Hij is aan elkaar gestikt op de featherweight en doorgequit op mijn Pfaff, want ik wilde weer eens het quilten uit de vrije hand oefenen (en ik heb niet zoveel geduld om met de hand te quilten).
It was fun making this dollquilt from leftovers. I made it on the featherweight ande quilted it on my Pfaff ( I'm not really a hand quilter). I wanted to practise free hand quilting again.
