Does Shopping Count as WIP Work???

Well, I think it does! I went shopping for the back, binding and batting for my recently found treasure, a quilt top made by my grandmother in the 1940's or 50's.
Grandma's quilt on the left, backing fabric on the right, binding fabric on the bottom, topped off with lovely Quilters Dream low loft cotton batting.

I found two LQS having sales, that takes some work, right??? The backing and the binding, found in two different shops, both on sale.

Of course, one of the shops was having their 10 year Anniversary sale, 25% off everything in the store. You really couldn't expect me to walk out without a little something for my stash, did you?

I'm a total sucker for solids, but I also couldn't help that sweet little typewriter print either.

I did get some quilting done this week, besides just shopping. I finished quilting the navy panel and worked on the elephant panel for my Elephant quilt. I still have some work to do on the elephant panel. Then I need to baste the last panel and quilt it before I can start assembly. I think I can get it done this month. That's the goal at least.

I completed a block for my guild "Art Grid" project. The Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild quilt is starting to look fabulous. I just LOVE how it is turning out.
I did block 11 and 21
So all in all, it was a pretty productive week, as long as you count shopping as work! ;)

Here are this week's stats:
In-process: (4)
Elephant quilt
Express Your Love
Layers quilt
Grandma's Quilt

New projects: (0)

Finished (1)
Block 11 for the IMQG Art Grid Project

I'm linking up with  Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday

Back Home with a Little Shot Cotton!

I'm back home from my conference and it feels so good. My favorite part of my trip was finding a wonderful little quilt shop, Cloth and Bobbin.

Cloth and Bobbin quilt shop. 235 Haverford Avenue, Narberth, PA 19072

A WONDERFUL selection of modern/designer fabrics

Owner Johann Hertz was delightful!
Cloth and Bobbin is just outside of Philadelphia and has a fabulous selection of modern fabrics. I had a fabulous time looking around the shop. The owner of the store, Johanna, helped me pick out some yummy shot cotton fat quarters.

If you're ever in the area, it is definitely worth a stop!

Pfaff Creative Sensation

WOW! I got to try out the latest and greatest Pfaff Creative Sensation sewing/embroidery machine Thursday night at Sew Creative. FANCY!
The machine is very sleek and the LCD panel is large, clear and easy to use.

It was fun to sit in a room with so many wonderful machines. Thank you Jeanne (owner of Sew Creative) and Linda (Pfaff instructor).
I will not be able to tell you all of the cool things this machine does, but here are some of the highlights that impressed me.

IDT feed system - This is not new to this machine, but wow. It's like a built in walking foot, only better.
Threat metering system - replaces thread tensioning. The machine is able to easily use any kind of difficult thread (metallic, invisible, cheap) without any problems.
Sewed through very heavy weight denim without any problems.

Stacked stitches (lining them up was a breeze)

All of this regular sewing was done with the embroidery unit still attached. That is AMAZING!

Now for the embroidery part of this machine, the very best, coolest part was precise positioning. You can move, twist, turn the design. Even if you unhooped your project (not recommended), you would be able to get back to a precision position after you rehoop your project (and by unhooping, I mean taking your project OUT of the hoop, not just off the machine) WOW!!! The built-in stitches, the applique, mini-embroidery designs, fonts, positioning, stacking.....AMAZING!
Applique and embroidery all from built-in features.

The hoop sizes range from a standard small hoop to gigantic! Imagine quilting in the hoop! That would have been fun to try.

The only problem is the price, which about ten grand. Big Swallow! Still cheaper that the fancy new Bernina, but out of this girl's prices range (especially since I already own a very nice Babylock Ellegante). All in all, Thursday evening sure was fun and they even gave us all a $50 gift certificate to the store. I really liked seeing what the latest and greatest was all about. Thank you Jeanne and Pfaff.

Gallivanting

When you live in the middle of nowhere and you are surrounded by lakes, going anywhere becomes gallivanting. Yesterday I was up visiting my dad, sew I took the opportunity to go to Sew Creative to pick up some more bobbins (it is amazing how many bobbins you go through free motion quilting).

Sew Creative is a great little store (my mom bought the Babylock Ellegante there), and they just happened to be having a 25% off all cottons sale. Well, I had to get just a little something. They also had the Pilot FriXion pens that you can use to mark quilts and then just iron the marks away. I can't wait to try them. The best part, they invited me next Thursday to have a "sit and sew" class with the new Pfaff Creative Sensation sewing/embroidery machine (FANCY)! The class and project are free, everyone in the class gets their own new machine to use during the class, then we get a $50 gift certificate to the store by filling out a survey on the machine. You can't beat that with a stick!!!

Then on my way home, I stopped to visit my friend Jean and we sat and gabbed and shared quilting projects! All in all, a lovely afternoon!

Well today is supposed to be rainy and windy, I think a day to sit and sew! I have a quilty purse to make for an up-coming birthday!
