Okay, Just One More Gift!

Well, I finished up one more gift that I wasn't sure if I would have time to make. I made some friends a couple of throw pillows. I finished the turtle pillow on Saturday and finished this fish pillow today. I hope to see our friends this afternoon. Nothing like finishing in the nick of time!  I am quite pleased with the result!

The embroidery design is from Embroidery Library. This is the same fish embroider that my machine died on the last color. I left it in the hoop and was actually able to finish it a month later when I got my machine back from being repaired!

Buttoned back. The bottom half is some of my hand dyed fabric.
On another note, Santa was very good to me this year. I got Electric Quilt 7, a Sew Kind of Wonderful quick curve ruler, a rotary cutter for circles, and a cute sewing box. I see a lot of quilting projects coming up this year! I hope that Santa was good to you all!

A Visit From the Ladies of the Lake

Yippee! My first Christmas present is done! A co-worker just loves Mermaids, so I thought that these two lovely ladies of the lake would be just perfect.

The embroidery designs are from Embroidery Library on some of my hand-dyed fabric. My husband even said they could stay, if my co-worker didn't want them.

WIP Wednesday #1

Well I decided to link with Freshly Pieced for W.I.P. Wednesday. I have so many projects going I need something to keep me on track!

I have been working on a quilty purse as a upcoming birthday present, but I've really had to push myself to work on it. I now have all of the pieces cut, the body and front pocket quilted. Last night I cut out the lining from some of this fun hand dyed fabric and sewed the zipper (I hate sewing zippers).

I have several projects in-process: (8)
Quilty purse #3
Hip to be Square FMQ sampler
Cubic Rhythm
Ladies of the Lake pillows
Table runner
Purple heart wall hanging
Expanding Possibilities quilt
Free-Motion practice samples

New projects in the cue to start: (2)
FLMQG solids challenge crib quilt
New Wave quilt

Projects completed this week: (0)

The Ladies of Cayuga Lake

When you live on a lake and you pay very close attention, you may just see the ladies of the lake. In my case, it's Cayuga Lake.

Meet Marina and Melody

Marina

Melody
Both are Embroidery Library designs, embroidered on some of my hand dyed fabric.

I found some wonderful coordinating fabric at Golden Lane Fabrics.

I think they will make lovely pillows for my or some other deserving person ;)  living room.

Well, just Color Me Quilty!

Dyed, Pressed and Varied

I can't encourage you enough to try dyeing. Think of the endless number of projects you could come up with using these luscious hand dyed fabrics. I just can't help myself.

All neatly pressed (thanks Kate)!

Check out the fourth one from the bottom (light lavender)
Amazing color variations

Color To Dye For!

OH MY GOSH!  I totally forgot what a rush it is to dye! You really have to try this, if you haven't already. Honest, it's easy (albeit a little messy, best done in a basement or garage). My dyes haven't lost their umph, they look great.

So this morning Kate and I got up (had a first cup of coffee) and went to the garage to check our dye pots (or in our case dye baggies). We brought them over to the deck (my washer and dryer are right inside the door), and proceeded to wring out the fabric in each baggie. Meanwhile I filled the washer with warm water, added Synthrapol and white vinegar. We did Kate's batch of 18 fabrics first, put them all in the washer at once. Then we did my batch!

Now for the big TA DA moment!

Mine are on the left (heavy on the greens) and Kate's on the right (rainbows)

Humphrey needed a little attention, too!
Well, I really didn't need more stash, but WOW Color Me Dyeing!

The Resurrection of Dyeing

It's been nearly a dozen years since I last dyed!  But my friend Kate was visiting and we couldn't think of a better thing to do than to dye. I had a whole bolt of PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabric and procion dyes, sew....out to the garage to make a big, fun MESS!
36 half yard pieces of damp fabric

Double, trouble, boil and bubble.. the dyes

All nicey, nicey in their baggies

The method I used is called Pot O'Gold that I was taught by Carol Soderlund

3 layers of fabrics in each baggie, each layer a different color.

Yummy!

Come back tomorrow to see the reveal (and if 12 year old dyes still work)! Until then, Color Me Quilty!
