FMQ Potholder Set Completed

Front
back

I like to practice free-motion quilting, so I decided to have a little fun and create a set of  potholders. I might as well make something useful while practicing. I used two layers of batting, the bottom layer of Insul-Bright and a top layer of Warm & Natural. The thread was a variegated King-Tut, Aurifil 50wt bobbin and Aurifil Invisible thread for the binding.

The quilted designs were just free-form feathers with a lot of echos. Then I just trimmed each one to 9"x 9". Lucky for me, I had just enough leftover binding from another project to go around each one.
I didn't have enough binding to make traditional potholder loops, so I just stitched on a bit of gold ribbon. I think it works.
I think I might have to make up several sets for Christmas presents.

For today though, I'm linking up with TGIFF, Link-A-Finish Friday, Can I Get a Whoop, Whoop and Finish It Up Friday

Echos

Yesterday I was fiddling, today I'm echoing...still no sound! ;)

I might have to go outside and do a little gardening today. WOOHOO, it's supposed to be almost 60 degrees F today.

Fiddling Around with Feathers

I have come to the conclusion that my favorite part of quilting is the quilting! Free motion quilting that is, and quilting feathers is one of my favorite things to quilt. Last night I decided I wanted to quilt, so I pulled out my sewing machine cover project - my excuse to just quilt what I feel like quilting. I quilted feathers around the border of the project.

I also decided to quilt some ribbons, echos and swirls.

I think the back looks better than the front, the quilting shows.

In other news, the postman has been busy delivering packages from all over the world, right to my door.
I have received goodies from:
Annabella - Life's Rich Pattern - Morocco
Janine - Rainbow Hare (2 packages actually)! - UK
Erin  - Billy Button Design - Ireland
Vicky - Vicky K Creating- Canada

WOW! Thanks everyone!

Feathers!!

I love the look of FMQ feathers, so I was excited to stitch a feather for Sew Cal Gal's February FMQ Challenge.

Unfortunately, my pretty green hand-dyed fabric doesn't really show well in these pictures. The batting is Insul-Bright, so now I will have one pretty potholder. I'll need to make it a mate. I wonder what next month's pattern will be?

A Little FMQ Sunday Sampler Fun

I got 3 more blocks on my FMQ Sampler (Hip to be Square) quilt quilted. Only 5 (out of 30) more blocks to go! I may actually finish this quilt in my lifetime!
I'm definitely into swirls

Very hard to see on this crazy, wild fabric

The whole block with feathers around the outside.

Not as happy with this block, but I guess that's what a sampler is about. Practice!
Happy Sunday!

Finally a sunny day to take some final pictures of my cubic rhythm quilt! Big firsts with this quilt: 1. first quilt I've quilted, 63" x 63" (loving FMQ). 2. Used metallic thread for the first time. 3. Spray basted the quilt. 4. Used bamboo batting! 5. Used my mom's fabric stash for the whole top. 6. Ready before Christmas!

Happy Sunday! And if all goes as planned I will be participating in Sew, Mama, Sew's giveaway tomorrow!

WIP Wednesday # 8: Finally Some Finishes

Yes, I finished my Cubic Rhythm quilt this week! Yippee, Skippee! I also finish 2 dog mats for my step-daughter's little princesses Rosie and Violet! Sew, not a bad week!
Approx. 63" x 63"

Traditional feathers

"Hooked" feathers

Batting was a bamboo/organic cotton blend.

Binding was the same as the last border. I used the glue instead of pin trick to machine stitch the binding. The back was a extra wide wild  batik (to hide some of my not so lovely stitching)
Although there are a few oops, I'm pretty happy with the quilting (first time I quilted a quilt).

Dog mats made from 2 fat quarters, machine embroidered, FMQed and bound.
So the stats for the week:

In-process: (4)

FLMQG solids challenge crib quilt (Not started)
