If you don't link back here, they won't know who to visit......thanks so much.

This year, our local Marshall's had some really neat Christmas things and I could not help myself, and purchased several things for myself. I could not resist these vintage inspired Christmas boxes. I fell in love with them the minute I saw them.

I have these sitting on top of my grandma's china cabinet. I have really enjoyed all of these little vintage boxes this year.

I love this popcorn tin, and the little box with the snowman was a find at Marshall's too. They had lots of art work that used vintage images. I have a few more in other areas of my house...ahem......another post!

This one is cute too! I am guessing Santa's Biscuits are cookies????

Here is the top of the hutch! I love all my vintage treasures! And since next week is Christmas, I hope to do a couple of post showing my Christmas decorations this year, maybe this weekend!

See this little guy?? It was a find today at the local thrift store. I tell ya something, this week, I have hit the jackpot at my local thrift stores. I usually think that this time of year, I am past finding Christmas treasures, but I am here to tell ya, I have found the goods!

In two days, I found THREE vintage Christmas tablecloths, three vintage kitchen towels, a whole BOX of vintage ornaments for $2.50, a whole unopened package of vintage tags for 49 cents and two rolls of vintage ribbon with adorable Santa graphics, several vintage craft kits and some vintage Christmas figures. The most fantastic thing of all was a very old SANTA paper mache mold that hangs on the wall. I scored that one for only $3.00. It is not perfect, but it is perfectly fine with me! I have had the best time!! It may not happen like this again for months, but this week has been fun!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday...and Merry Christmas friends!

Christmas Ornament Swap Received! What fun!!

This year, I participated in a Christmas Ornament Swap hosted by Sue, at It's a Very Cherry World.

My partner was Dorothy from Hens Rule Blog. I had a great time fixing a goodie box for Dorothy and making an ornament. It was my first time to swap a ornament I had to make, and I hope my effort was not too much of a fail.

Today, my box arrived and I could hardly wait to open it and check out my new ornament and goodies! Boy, was this a fun box to open, and I was so excited as I dug into all the goodies!

Here is a picture of all my fun things. The ornament Dorothy made for me is so sweet, as it is a black and tan dachshund playing in the snow with a cute Christmas tree. It could not be more perfect.

Look how sweet this ornament is!! Sparkly snow and all tied up with a cute polka dot red bow!

She also included this cute little putz house. Oh, this is so cute! Loved it too!

Vintage euphoria, and a cute little vintage Christmas book. The little book really jogged my mind as I seem to remember little books like this from my childhood. I love all of these treasures.

Dorothy included a pretty card with a personal note and a cute little snowman ornament as well! This was  a very fun swap, and I really enjoyed participating.

Here is a glimpse of my little putz house, it is on top of my china cabinet with these little vintage Santa and Mrs. Clause that were gifts from  my SSS swap. They go so cute together, like it was meant to be.

And here is my cute little dachshund ornament already hanging on my tree!

Thank you again, Dorothy for swapping with me this year. I enjoyed putting your box together and making you an ornament. Likewise, I was over the moon with my gifts! So fun!! I am really glad I decided to participate with this swap, and Thank you to Sue for organizing it! Christmas surprises are sure a lot of fun.

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Children Christmas Books

Welcome everyone to Vintage Thingies Thursday

If you have a love for vintage things, well....you have come to the right place. We have a really good time each and every week!!!
If you are new to this party, please take the time to
read and follow the instructions for participating in Vintage Thingies Thursday, click HERE. I try and keep things fairly simple, so please make sure you follow the instructions. If you don't link back here, they won't know who to visit......thanks so much.

A few weeks ago, I was able to stop in at one of my favorite thrift stores. I was about to leave when I stopped at the glass case in the front and spotted three children Christmas books. I was sure they price would be out of my budget, but I decided to ask anyway.

Turns out, these were $1.00 each. Can you believe it?? Three dollars for these fantastic books.

Now, let me be clear, they are not in perfect condition, by any means. Years ago, that would have been a deal breaker, as I used to think for them to be of value they needed to be in pristine condition. Not so much these days...if I like them, I don't really care too much about the condition.

The graphics are just precious.....and it seems someplace far in the back of my mind, I remember a Christmas book from my childhood that had the fuzzy feeling Santa, just like this one has.

The photos on all of these books are just adorable, and sweet vintage graphics.

As you can see, this book was very much loved. It still holds lots of charm in my eyes.

These pages are definitely a memory I hold dear, I am not sure if we had this same book, or a newer version of the book, but I remember this page as the dad looking out the window was always a thing that stood out to me.

Love the sweet Santa faces in both of these books.

I have never seen this one before, ever. It really is a strange sort of book, but I could not leave it behind.

look at the copyright...no wonder I don't recall ever seeing it.

The story is about toys coming to life, and the pictures appear to be still photos of different toys, and it just is something I have never seen before.

These three books are perfect for displaying with my Christmas decor. I have them in my guest bathroom on the magazine rack, they look cute and festive, and it matters not to me that they are not perfect and well loved. I am thrilled with this find, and treasure them just as they are!

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

I have tons of things to blog about....but no time to get the pictures edited and on a blog post....and it is time for Vintage Thingie Thursday again .....and well, I had to scramble for something this week.

This is a wreath I want to try and make hopefully this year. I found the image on  pinterest, but could not follow the link to the original post. Am I the only one that has that problem with pinterest?

I am on the look out for more of these types of vintage bulbs. I remember my mom and grandma had worlds of these and how I wish I had them now....I have found a few when out and about looking at thrift stores and estate sales, but not nearly enough to make one of these beautiful wreaths.....but after all, the real fun is in the hunt..right??

Have a Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

This year, I found a few more Christmas mugs that are similar in style and from the same time period as the ones I found last year.

I have them on a mug tree in my kitchen. I love all the Santa graphics.

Here is another close up of the bells on this cup.

I love these Santa Boots. The red one is rather large, and the smaller one goes well with it! Both were added this year to the holiday decor.

This Church is a candle holder. When the candle is lit, the  light shines through the windows and tree. This belonged to my mother in law, and I decided to put it out this year to enjoy.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and blessings for the new year! Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!!

Sometimes You Don't Need The Story - The Word Dachshund Catches Your Heart

The other night, I was on facebook reading post from a fairly new merchant site I had "liked." This particular merchant makes clay dachshund dogs in memory of her beloved pet she lost a few years back. Her pieces are numbered and signed.
she posted a link for some of her early pieces that a lady was selling so that she might be able to buy presents for her children for Christmas.

My heart skipped a beat.  Those who know me know my heart is so soft and the very thought of someone selling their "TREASURES" in order to ease the stress of the holiday season and be able to hopefully provide something for their children for Christmas was just more than this ole heart could take.

I messaged the merchant and asked if there was some way to help. I told her I really wanted to do something......then a couple of others joined in and agreed they also would like to help.

I don't know any more of this story other than this family has had a very hard time. I don't need any other particulars as it was enough for me to know how desperate the situation might be if she is selling her beloved dachshund treasures.

There was a "chip-in" set up for this family. You can donate any amount via paypal or any other method, I believe. It can be anonymous, or you can use your name. I am not asking for you to donate, that is something you have to search your heart to do and follow your heart in a situation like this. I do however know that many want to help others but seem to not find the right avenues to do so.

This is easy....peasy.....a dollar or a few more to help a fellow dachshund lover and her family ease the stress of hard times during the holiday season. Below is the link for the chip-in.

Sadly, I know that so many are in the same situation. This particular person, even though I may never know who they are just spoke to me...and when that happens.....I am compelled to listen and do what I can.  After all, it is the season of giving, if you are able....and that is all the story you really need.

*** UPDATE: I just read on the site that she listed her treasures on that her husband who was 38 years old developed a brain tumor and passed away. It is just her and her kids.....be still my heart. Like I said, sometimes you just don't need the story...please pray for this family.

Favorite Thing Christmas Gift Idea ~ Christmas Bear

Photo from Mad Man Knitting Blog

This time of year, I keep my eyes open for unique gifts. Sometimes, I find unique gifts that I want for myself. This is absolutely one of my all time favorite gift ideas that I have come across in a long time. At first glance, this Christmas bear really does not look much difference than any other ordinary Christmas bear.....but when you look closer, and read the story...it certainly will touch your heart, at least it did mine...and my husband is ordering me one for Christmas!!

I really don't have a clue how I found the website, or much less the facebook page, but below is the exert from Mad Man Knitting's Facebook page...and I know it will stir some interest to dig a little deeper as it did for me

Mad Man Knitting: A year ago I lost everything and had to find a way to feed myself. Somehow, I fell back on my old hobby of knitting to survive. What was a born was a teddy bear that has grown in popularity and adoration.

I quickly discovered not only the Facebook page but also a blog...and well, you know how we all love to find a new blog! There on the blog you will find a link to all of his wonderful bears.

Mad Man Knitting has set a goal for himself to only make 100 of these Christmas bears. I am assuming they are made by order, but only 100 will be made. They are very inexpensive and there is a link here and here to the blog post that talk about the Christmas Bears. How inspirational to read about someone who decided not to feel sorry for himself and put forth a plan to make it one way or another.

So as we head into the holiday season, this is the first on my list of Favorite Things, from me, The Coloradolady.

Stop by and have a look around, you will be inspired I am sure as I really felt inspired and touched as I read about this incredible man. Oh, and just to be clear, Mad Man Knitting has no idea who I am, has never heard of me, and has no idea I am putting his bear on my favorite thing list this holiday season. But, that bear is clearly one of my favorite things...as well as the man and story behind its creation!

My Parents Warped My Thinking

Well, the holidays are over, and most all of the goodies are gone too. That means I guess I am back to some type of a diet. Yuk!

This is want is left from the chex mix. This morning, I decided that my parents warped my mind as a child and ruined my thinking on chex mix. Let me explain.

My grandma made chex mix when I was a little girl, however she called it "trash" but it was the same. As a little girl, I was perfectly happy eating the peanuts and not worrying about the different nut variety in the mix, it was all the same. Until I noticed my mom picking out the cashews. I asked her why she was doing that and she told me those were the best, her favorite. Next, I noticed my dad picking out the Brazilian nuts and the pecans. And again, he said they were the best. Now, my dad was sorta selfish, and would not or at least tried to keep me from eating the pecans and Brazilian nuts, proclaiming I would not like them. Hum....as a kid, I no longer settled for the peanuts....I wanted what my parents claimed to be the best, and it was not the peanuts.

And 30 something years later, my parents influence still holds true. The peanuts are almost all that is left. I did manage to find a half a cashew this morning and an almond. I savored the flavor, and now I am done with the mix as all "the good" nuts are gone.

I'd like to say thanks mom and dad, because as a little girl, this chex mix would still be just fine, but now....It is destined to either the squirrel feeders or the "trash" because you convinced me that these nuts were not good and there were better choices. Luckily, all that is really left is the crumbs and the peanuts.  I think this is one time I should not have listened to my parents! Just sayin'
