construction zone part 1

You'll notice that my posts have been few and far between
lately. Besides the fact that we've been super busy (yay for work!!)
my camera finally died and needed a proper burial. . .I know, its sad.

These pics are taken with my iPhone, which will have to do
until I get my paws on a new camera. Anyways, here's a little peek into
the project we're working on in our home. . .yes, you heard me right!

Instead of working on a clients home, we're actually working on our own. . .yay me!

This is the pile of tile my sweet son has been tearing out. . .you may need to
throw on a hard hat, because there's chunks a flyin' around here :)

As you walk in, this is the first room that you see. . .it's usually not such
a pig pen, but when there's demo going on, who feels like cleaning?

This room is getting a fresh coat of paint as well as hardwood flooring. . .can't wait!

This is standing in the same spot, but just looking forward into the kitchen.
You can see where we've ripped out all of the tile. . .the carpet's going next!

Here's another angle of the kitchen over by the dining table.
While we've loved the country finish we did on the kitchen a while back,
we've decided it was time for a new face lift as well.

Ugh. . .I promise to get better pictures next time too :(

The kitchen, dining room, and family room are all connected.
Basically, the whole main floor is getting hardwood flooring, and fresh paint.
Bye-bye to mustard walls and Berber carpet!

We have three sets of stairs that will get the hardwood treatment as well.
I'm hoping to switch out some of the dated lighting too. We'll see if hubby cooperates.

Here's a little peek of what we're doing.
I originally wanted dark walnut floors (for as long as I can remember)
but when I saw this sample of hand scraped Aspen, I fell in love!
The wall color we choose is called Khaki Shade, by Sherwin Williams,
and this beautiful Belgium rug from Home Goods will go very nicely in the family room.

We're definitely in the messy-not-so-fun stage, but I know it will
all be worth it when it's done!

kitchen before & after

Here's a cute little kitchen that was structurally in good shape,
but just needed a little bit of an update. . .

Our client decided to go with an antique white with light walnut glazing.
We also added a tile back splash and bead board on the end
of the cabinets to give it a country feel. . .

Laminate counter tops were replaced with a beautiful granite,
and stainless steel under mount sink. . .

The brass hardware was switched out for a more updated bronze, as well as the
white appliances for stainless steel. . .

By refinishing her existing cabinets, the home owner was able to put extra
money into all the other updates to make this kitchen complete.

We LOVE the way this kitchen turned out :)

Girl's Bedroom Makeover

The adorable little gal (Hailee) who lived in this bedroom was soooo excited to be
getting a makeover, and boy did this room need it! The nice thing is
that it was newer home, and didn't need any major remodeling done.

This darling little gal knew exactly what she liked. . .
purple and aqua. . .hmmm.
She also loved reading and butterflies! So, after getting the
green light from her mother, we set out to find
just the right stuff to bring her bedroom to life!

This is what the room originally looked like. . .

You can always count on Downeast Home to find just
the right things for a fantastic bargain!
This cute quilt and shams were perfect!

Here is another adorable set we found. . .had a hard time choosing
between the two, but Hailee knew exactly which one she wanted.

(Remember being young and knowing exactly how you liked things??
And as you grew, you listened more and more to the world,
and not your inner self?. . .Ya, that's me.)

So the decision on the bedding was settled thanks to Hailee. . .
now on to the paint choices!
After debating weather to paint the room purple or aqua,
we stumbled across this beautiful lavender shade. . .

See the legde under that window? We decided to make a little reading bench
by fitting a large plank for the seat, and bead board wrapped with trim,
. . .finished in crisp white.

Custom farmouse shutters were built and finished in antique white
and distressed, with a light glaze to match the furniture.
Adding the shutters gave the room a cozy cottage feel. . .love it!

She was lucky enough to inherit her parent's bedroom
furniture, which we refinished in and antique white with
a light walnut glaze wash.

I love how the soft lavender contrasts against the glazed antique white!

We decorated with a few random accessories, leaving room for
Hailee to bring in her own personal touches...

I love a girl who knows what she wants!

...and she even got her butterflies.

Before...

. . .and after
