Pendants, Flowers, Crosses, Edging, Motifs, Lady, Angel, Basket and Doily

mb duke was privileged to win the Juicy Watermelon pendant from umintsuru.

Sharon has been tatting lots and lots of flowers in response to a request from Georgia Seitz for a fundraiser for Palmettos.

Diane found this Workbasket cross, strange to tat because the centre is added last. She worked it in size 20 Lizbeth #170 but if she were doing it again she would design a different centre.

Fox attempted a pattern by Kirstine and Inge Lise Nikolajsen that appears in Tatted Handkerchiefs. The new thread, which turned out to be about #100 was a perfect colour for the project, but much too fine, making it hard to close rings. She went on to a size 40 Lizbeth in ivory using the Frauberger Crown pattern, but she's not sure she likes it. This motif done in HDT by Yarnplayer in a pattern by Susanne Schwencke will head off to Peru.

 

Marie tatted another Sunbonnet Sue from the Big Book of Tatting in Lizbeth, size 20, Green Orchid Med and Blue River Glades. Rita's Angel was made with  Lizbeth, size 20, Grape dk, White, and Gold, with a flower instead of a candle.

Michelle made this basket again because she just wanted to do split chains using Romanian "macrame" thread which was kind of stretchy and weird to work with. One of the teachers brought in some framed tatting from her family. The tatter, Aaron Kraft, pictured in the corner, tatted it when he was 90, and continued to tat until he was 95. The motif is her younger daughter's first piece with rings and chains.

Necklaces, Snowflakes, Bookmarks, Doilies, Motifs and Basket

Jane did another necklace using only one colour and lost the X and O effect. She's working on earrings to go with it. She added bugle beads to this choker and she'll have to concentrate as she weaves the red foundation row through the ring before closing.

Nancy tried out Lizbeth's Cranberry Bush for these snowflakes  for her eldest daughter's Christmas tree, using online patterns.

Linda made CQ cards for some people and will tuck inside an angel and bookmark.

Ancolie tatted Mary Konior's Filet pattern in DMC 80.

Cindy has finished round 2 of the Jan Stawasz doily after starting it twice. Several people have said that his diagrams are confusing.

Diane is working on her latest Spinning Wheel glass mat and although she has lost the tag, she thinks the name of this Marilee Rockley HDT is Gold Dust.  The motif is Flower Fragment from A Pattern Book of Tatting by Mary Konior done in a pale pink, size 20 Lizbeth #621.

Fox really enjoyed tatting the centre of this design from a Danish Magazine, which she tried two ways. It was the outer round that she found trying. This little motif by Elgiva Nicholls is pretty small and is very tight between the elements so that you can barely see the twisted picots.

IsDihara used Lizbeth size 20 #156 Juicy Watermelon to tat Susanne Schwenke's triangle motif.

Jess finished the raspberry round of the wedding doily and now she's working on one in cream and daffodil. She started another round in Lizbeth size 40 silver but she has just about run out, needing only about 5 more yards and she can't find the ball. Can anyone help?

Marie tatted the Split Ring Cross by Wendy Durrel in Lizbeth, size 20, Leaf Green Med and Tropical Punch. The mixing of the colours in Leaf Green Med and Ecru gave this one a Celtic effect.

Mica likes this snowflake so much she couldn't resist tatting it with one strand of DMC metallic floss.

Michelle has mastered interlocking rings with a shuttle, now to figure out what to do with it. This lovely HDT thread was used to make a basket from an old Tatsy pamphlet.

Wanda stitched rows of thread onto this cloth to hang tatting from. Then it was draped over a cardboard box to create and instant display case for the craft show. Unfortunately after all the work involved the sales were dismal due to the weather, the location and a poorly planned event.

The Guidelines

1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing us to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.

2. There is no need to advise the Challenge Team to let let us know when you've added things to your blog. We check all of the blogs when we do an update.

3. We can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. We don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell us when they have reached their goal of 25.

4. We know from past experience that the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let us know so that we continue to check your blog on a regular basis.

5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.

6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.

Laurie has been working on a binder for a fabric book and it's half done. The design is Three Linked Ring Bookmarks together using Lizbeth #690-Mocha Brown Light in size 10.

Jane found that her tension just wasn't working out on Frivole's Flowering Quatrain bookmark, as it seemed to be wither too loose or too tight. Tatknot gave this Morning Glory bookmark pattern given in celebration of International Tatting Day and it looks wonderful in any colour but Jane loves the look of the Victorian sets done in Tatilicious' Rainbow HDT.

Lelia has never tatted an edging before, but she thought she'd try Mary Konior's Corn and Chaff, from Tatting in Lace which turned out quite nice although she had to adjust the picot size to get what she wanted. Then she tried an edging from a Handy Hands newsletter and she got a twisty design. It looks like it's a 2 shuttle design that needs one repeat of rings and chains worked with the first shuttle and the next repeat worked with the second shuttle.

Kristen has lots of chocolate ready to enjoy on International Tatting Day along with her tatting projects. She finished the latest round on The Big Doily and has started the next round in the do-over doily.

Linda is working on a sides of a crazy quilt that she hopes to have finished this year. She thinks her tatted bunny needs some greenery.

Cindy finished this second egg cover using Renulek's pattern and worked in Lizbeth Denim Whisper whose colours aren't that bright and spring like but OK with the blue egg.

Diane got quite a bit of tatting done on International Tatting Day. This edging is really growing.

Fox changed the stitch count on this pattern from Karey's new book, not because there was anything wrong with it as written, but because she was using two different size threads. Thanks to Kathy's instructions, Fox has grasped the interlocking rings. Ever since Fox got this vintage hankie and the Cébélia #30 blue thread she has been wanting to tat Mary Konior’s Marguerite using the inner row like Frivole did in yellow. Only now, she can't decide if she wants to do hers in yellow, or pink. What do you think?

Frances has tatted all 12 hearts from Tatting Hearts by Teri Dusenbury for a special project using Milford 2 ply Satin ombre Red.

Kathy has finished her tutorial on interlocking rings. It's amazing how step by step pictures can really clarify things. This picture is just the final result, but you can see all the steps on her blog.

Margaret has found a little mat by Mary Konior called Flower Piece that she had been working on using size 60 thread. She has more thread left and the pattern has another row, but while the thread hasn't changed, her eyes have and it's too fine for her to work on without stronger glasses. Here is the tat along mat by Renulek in Sea Island Citrus Lizbeth no 20.

Marie has another dragon completed, this time in Lizbeth, size 20, Fruit Fizz.

Martha has been too busy  and too pooped to blog, but a little care package from Fox with a tatted motif and some prompting from online friends, she's ready to get going again.

Michelle did intend to make 2 Easter baskets for her daughter using an old pattern from Tatsy, but time allowed for only one. Done in size 20 Lizbeth, Scottish Thistle. The bunny was done in size 20 Lizbeth white, but she's not sure where the pattern came from. This medallion is from DMC Tat motif #21 and it's done in Lizbeth Blue River Glades, size 20. Here it is again without the tail.

Wanda is all practiced up for tatting and eating chocolate on International Tatting Day. The center of this piece is made of stone and she has tatted around it in Lizbeth #626 Shell Pink Light size 20 and she's going to mount it on this huge button to make a pendant out of it. She has started another bracelet using purple buttons and Lizbeth #122 Caribbean size 20.
